Hey, I heard your parents weren't exactly good people. How do you cope with that?
Rex put his head warily up at the inquiry, running a hand down his face and sighing. This was going to be a trend, wasn’t it? He really didn’t want to deal with this, however reassuring someone was. “Who are you to judge and how did you find that out?” he asked, looking sideways at the person. Sure his parents weren’t exactly...great, but now suddenly it was fair game for everybody to pick up on this. “I don’t appreciate everybody knowing some very personal information about me.”
He turned away, annoyed and yet...he felt a little soft. Sure, he’d moved on, right? Bringing them up didn’t bother him as much, but maybe because he buried those feelings with a whole lot of other things. Maybe it helped that his job practically encouraged him to keep stuff under wraps because of who could end up using it to their advantage. Anyway, he was just going on with some bizarre train of thought, he snapped out of it and turned back with a polite but firm tone.
“Look, I cope with it by not thinking about it, alright? Just...I’m sorry, okay? I haven’t spoken to them in years and I don’t plan to anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean I want them to get involved in anything. I don’t even know why I’m even telling you just that, among many reasons why.”
