Rae groaned in pain as her shoulder throbbed. A man shoved a gun into her face menacingly, and she heard someone sobbing nearby. She glared hatefully at the man in front of her, and her knuckles whitened, her nails digging into her skin until she drew blood. The other hostages were all crying and begging, and while she wanted to just curl up and cry and ask for mercy, all she could listen to were her instincts. The ones that pushed her to survive this. She wouldn't end up like her parents. When he reached out to grab her, her arm flung out to punch him in the face. In return, he yanked her shaking body in front of everyone and placed the gun at her temple, holding her as she struggled. "This is what happens when you try to fight back," he warned cruelly. A tear fell down her cheek, and she closed her eyes, her parents flashing through her mind.

April’s eyes widened, a bright red blush appearing on her cheeks and neck. She opened her mouth to say something, but nothing came out. She closed her mouth, then opened it again, trying to find the words. Instead, all that came out was a choked, “Raph…”

She looked around at the alley, the unconscious forms of Foot soldiers littered around them. She had been cornered not too long ago when Raph had literally dropped from the sky. Seconds later, her attackers were down, and Raph was still growling quietly in his chest.
She should have been more careful, she should have been more observant of her surroundings.
She should have called the minute she knew she was being followed.
But instead, she had been stubborn and told herself that she could take care of herself, that she was a big girl. They managed to land a pretty good hit to the side of her face. She could already feel it bruising and swelling up. And now look where that got her; eight unconcious Foot and an almost out-of-control turtle. He might have gone a little too far, but this was far from his fault.

((Nah, you're fine. I had no idea the fandom had such a hate boner for that particular character either. See, this is all really confusing to me right now. There seems to be a very selective use of the "it's a kid's show" filter in people's brains. I still have no idea which series people actually remember that fact with, so I'm just gonna not bring up anything before '03 until I figure out this fandom's taboos.))
