There were a few unfortunate consequences to fighting a werewolf, he discovered. One of them was the sudden need for healing potions to help with the wounds that would no doubt leave scars. Another was an angry wife who he was currently arguing with to let him leave the house to buy said potions.
“We were going to spend the day together and now you suddenly have to go out? Why should I let you out of the house ever again!? Give me one good reason!” Rommie was standing arms akimbo as he hovered by the door doing up his jacket carefully. It wasn’t as though he wanted to leave the house. He was quite content to stay at home and lounge around all day, but they needed more potions for the both of them and he didn’t want to put it off any longer.
“It will take me two minutes, I promise. I’ll be fine! You’ve always hated valentines day anyway…” This was the wrong thing to say.
His wife stepped forwards with the dangerous look in her eye that had him backing away into the door with a wince. “It’s not about fucking valentines day,” she spat. “I wanted to spend a nice, quiet day together. Every time you step out that door you do something stupid, so can you leave it for one day and stay at home! You don’t always have to be on the move, you shouldn’t be on the move right now. Relax, for fuck’s sake!”
“Ten minutes,” he said quietly. “I need to get your potions, you haven’t had them in a while, and I need to get … my stuff. I won’t let anything distract me, okay. Even if the place explodes I’ll come right home.”
Rommie groaned in frustration and lifted her hand. For a second he was convinced she would slap him and braced himself, but when she touched his cheek it was a surprisingly gentle gesture. “Fine. But only ten minutes. If you take any longer I’ll assume you’re dead and come find your corpse so I can bring you back to life and kill you myself.” Heaving a sigh she rolled her eyes. “Merlin’s tits, why can’t I ever say no to you?”
Edgar grinned sheepishly. “Because I’m adorable?” he asked innocently.
This earned him a playful slap as she shoved him out the door. “Just hurry up before I change my mind.”
Trying to be as quick as he could he apparated just outside of the Leaky Cauldron and hurried through the alley towards the apothecary. Truthfully he wanted to get this over with quickly. He was tired and hurt, but like he had promised he wouldn’t take very long.
As he approached the building he first noticed that people were acting oddly. This would normally put him on guard but the odd behaviour seemed harmless enough, especially considering it was valentines day. There were couples hooking up in corners and people shouting out names, but not in worry or concern. As he walked further he started to feel his curiosity and concern slip away. Suddenly a giddiness was building in his chest and making him long for something.
Soon enough he found that he was no longer focused on potions or returning home, in fact he had completely forgotten about all of that. Walking forwards, he kept going past the apothecary, further and further down the street, searching for something to ease the longing in his heart. It didn’t take him long to spot her, with a young face and a beautiful sheet of long red hair. It was always the hair, wasn’t it. Forgetting his children, forgetting his pregnant wife and the task he had left he cosy house to do, he instead stepped forwards towards the amazing girl with her vibrant hair. She was the only thing on his mind now. Reaching out without care or thought, he grabbed a strand of her hair and let it flow softly through his fingers. “You’re so beautiful,” he muttered quietly. “What’s your name?”
