38. What’s the longest you’ve ever gone without sleep?

I can't be certain, but I'd say four days might be longest that I've gone without sleep. And there was no particular reason for it, I just simply wanted to see what would happen.

"I'm not sure what you mean. What peasant words are those? What are you even asking me?"

"I speak French, so it's a yes. If you want to make sure, why don't you come closer?"

A roll of her eyes is all she offered her eldest,   gaze returning to the book in her hand as                she spoke somewhat softly.

                              “Your little endeavours provide me with little                               interest, dear. Perhaps if you were to find your                                 father, he would be a much better audience                                      for the tales you seem keen on telling.”

     Druella paused, glanced at Bellatrix from the      corner of her eye, and raised her brow. Silent    for but a beat of her heart, she bowed her head      once again and quickly licked her left thumb,                  flipping the page of her book.

                                           "Oh, I shall find papa I shall I shall." she repeated in a mock child's voice before turning her attention to the metal box that she was now playing with." Oh and what are these tales that I keep on telling. Or lies, most people say that those would be lies. And I wasn't aware I was a liar. What an interesting day, found out a thing about myself. I had no idea about." as usual her tone contained a certain edge, an anger, a rage that was just there, so close to the surface. A demon that was ready to be let off from its leash.

He’d been hungry. Starving actually. He’d debated just ignoring it, but he was learning that he didn’t have to do that at Hogwarts. He could just go to the great dining hall and get food. It was an amazing concept that he still couldn’t quite get over. So while others were studying (at least that’s what Remus had been doing) Peter had slipped out of the Gryffindor tower and slunk his way down to the dining hall. He’d already powered through a sandwich and a helping of fruit and debating a cookie (the elves would bring whatever you asked for most of the time) when the girl had entered.

Peter curled into himself as if he could somehow make himself smaller, but it didn’t seem to matter. She’d found him and with unerring determination, she’d closed the gap in what seemed nothing more than a heartbeat. He cringed away from her hands on his face, his eyes like saucers. "I-I wus ‘ungry. The elves…they’ll bring ya’ food…" He stammered, praying she’d leave him be and terrified that no such reprieve was in store for him.

"Oh." she replied sitting across from him. "Little piggy stuffing its face. And no friends, what they don't know?" she gasped rather dramatically, placing a hand over her mouth as if to conceal the shock of the discovery. "Plenty of things, that they don't know about you Peter." she slowly pronounced his named, rolling the r's for a few seconds longer. She couldn't sleep, and wandering around on her own was no fun at all. Everyone was in their little beds, being nice and obeying the rules. It was perfectly blasphemous. Bellatrix fumbled around her pockets for what seemed to be forever. "Oh please continue eating. Don't mind me." where had she put her cigarettes? She was always misplacing things, losing them. 

"So have you seen anything interesting around here. Or is the only activity, interest you have food." she picked a muffin that was sitting on the top of the tray. Slowly tearing one small bite after another she finished it quickly. "Maybe you're right Peter, maybe secrets are good. Oh I have plenty of those, wanna hear some. And maybe then you can tell me a few in return, what do you say?"

Vincent frowned as he glanced at the man, eye’s narrowing. He waited a moment for their victim to react, but he sat in the chair, panting. 

"They really don’t," Vincent agreed, nodding his head sympathetically. "Boring, the lot of them. Would you like me to give it a shot?" Glancing at Bellatrix first to make sure she wouldn’t object, Vincent walked over to the man. His left hand seized the victim by the neck while his right slammed into the other’s jaw line. Only a tiny whimper. How depressing.

"Maybe we just need to get more creative," Vincent ascertained, stepping back. "Any ideas?"

She indicated with her hand that he should have a go. It was only fair and maybe he'd be able to get a rise out of the man. The thought alone made her angry, because if she wasn't able to, he most certainly wouldn't be as well. "What's the point of them? If they don't serve to amuse us and help us pass some time. What's the point of any of you?" she was hissing at the man that was now breathing heavily, almost like he couldn't get air.

"Oh yes, a lovely idea. Very clever." she mumbled on, walking in circles around the room before it hit her. "Ah." she exclaimed slapping her hand against the wall, making a few bits of it fall down to the floor. Bellatrix ran out of the room and it took her a few moments before she walked back in, dragging someone who was screaming, kicking and crying at the same time.

"Maybe you're lonely love." she patted the man on the head before she turned to look at the woman on the floor. "You'll wake him up, or your screams, however you want to look at it." she skipped over to Crabbe leaning her head on his arm. "Do you like her? I brought a new toy."

“The girl bled longer.”

It wasn’t a topic he would have pursued much farther in the commons, but his curiosity was piqued nonetheless. His nose crinkled when she kissed him and he recoiled, but she was already withdrawing.  Irritation simmered in his gut because he wanted to know more. What spell did you use? He disliked the eagerness that rippled along his skin. Her threat meant little, but he knew he’d be there at the appointed time because she’d managed to lure him in. He wanted to know more about the girl. How long had she bled? Had her heart raced? Had she suffered.

Did she scream?

Instead he sat at the table, his attention on the book completely diverted, and when Slytherins began pouring through the door, he packed his things, stowed them away and slipped out to make his way toward the lake.

A punctual creature, he was at the lake before his cousin so he settled in the grass, dropping back to watch the clouds drift lazily across the sky. It would be winter soon and he was glad. He liked the cold starkness of winter. As he waited he busied himself with possibilities. If his cousin had harmed a person perhaps he needn’t wait as long as he’d planned. That was an extremely pleasant thought…

She had marked her initials into the wooden bench at the back of the class. The professor droned on, and it would have been horribly tedious had she not acquired a new friend. No, not a friend, but someone with common interests. She had been testing him while they sat in the common room, sure she had high hopes but she couldn't have even imagined. He'll be someone fun to play with. Bellatrix twirled the small knife she carried with her, now that she had finished with the table, the only thing that was left for her to do was to look out the tall windows and onto the lake. The surface of the water was almost like a mirror, you could see the school a bit, but mostly it was the perfectly blue sky that it was reflecting.

The bell announced the end of the torture she had to endure whilst sitting there, and before anyone else had the chance to walk out the classroom she was already running down the corridors. Bumping into a few people on the way made her giddy for some reason, or maybe it had nothing to do with it, nor did it had anything to do with the fact that she didn't have listen to a boring lecture. Maybe the conversation that she was about to have, and what would come of it, was what made her so ecstatic.

It wasn't difficult to spot him as she came close to where they had agreed to meet, or where she had told him to be. Plopping down on the soft grass, she took out one of his cigarettes and stayed silent for a few short moments. "I know you're not the talking type. But it's awfully rude of you to expect me to do all the talking?"

What are the characteristics of your wand?

                                                  “My wand is 12 ¾” Walnut, with a dragon heartstring core. It was constructed by Ollivander, which is no surprise if you come to think of it. And was perfectly described as being “unyielding”. There is a slight curve to the wand, almost as if it’s bending in one direction. Which makes the wand appear to resemble a bird’s talon. Is that enough information or do you want me to show you?”

"Sweet Bella, you’re discussing having opinions with me?  What happened to the outspoken Bella I once knew?  Surely not defeated by a marriage, of course.  That would make me feel almost cheated, I assure you."

Bellatrix tilted her head to one side, observing her sister, but at her last comment she almost spat out. "You." she had grabbed Narcissa by the throat and was now pinning her against the wall. "Pathetic little girl, what do you know of anything? And what about you, are you doing your only role in life? Having children sister." she was now grinning so widely that she looked like a dog ready to bite. "Is your only purpose. Unlike me. I was made for so much more."

                                                 The rain had been pouring for hours, but she didn't much mind it. Bellatrix leaned her head back and let the drops caress her face and soak her clothes. The street lamp a few steps away from her was flicking on and off, threatening to die out and that caught her attention. She stared at it, wondering if this was some wizard workings, but as time ticked on it was obvious, that it was not. Sound of faint footsteps echoed around her, and she counted each step, still clinging to the shadow. Who might this be? Suddenly she got exited.

                                                 Bellatrix had ventured out, there was no mission, no order that she had to follow. But the boredom that was seeping into her bones was fuel enough for her to walk around the empty streets in pursuit of someone to play with.

                                      "Walking, walking. Oh, a plaything." she had been moving her fingers from her lips as she spoke, down to her throat, over her chest and her hand finally rested on her stomach. Moving slowly towards her pray she peeked behind the wall to see who was coming her way, but the only thing she could see was a figure.

                                                   "Don't stop." she said with a slight pout. The man had stopped screaming and her face turned into a grimace of annoyance. She was still clutching her wand in one hand, while her other hand was completely wet with blood that was now dripping onto the floor. "That's not very nice." she said moving in closer and hitting him again, but he made no noise which only angered her more. "If you were a nice little boy I would have killed you already. But you don't play nice. Why aren't you screaming?" she yelled out, her voice a mixture of manic anger and a growling noise.

                                             "Why is he being so difficult?" her voice was now more reminiscent of a stubborn child as she addressed Crabbe. "It's not fair, none of them last long enough. Don't you think?"

                                    She had been walking around the many intricate hallways before she finally made her way into the large dining hall. The chandelier that hung low was casting complex shadows over the walls. It was daytime, or so she thought, but no sunlight broke in through the tall windows. Everyone was off either sleeping, or out somewhere following some order. She found that whenever long periods of idleness stretched out, her mind would yell out at her. To do something, anything. The urges would be more prominent, more so then when she was busy with something or someone. Her body was moving, even though she was standing still. And then she spotted him, little Peter.

                                             "Ah." she yelled out as she ran over to him. "You." her hands found their way to the sides of his face."Why is it that you're not in some hole somewhere?" her voice carried trough the room like a ghost.

                                       "What are you doing?"

I will be wild. I will be brutal. I will encircle you and conquer you. I will be more powerful than your boats and your swords and your blood lust. I will be inevitable.

      “Are you done?"

                Boredom glints in her eyes               as words drawl from her lips.

   ”Because in case you’ve haven’t               noticed — I stopped                      listening.”

                                                            "Tsk, tsk. Such impatience. "She couldn't find it in herself to be mad at the insinuation that what she had        to say was not worthy enough to be listened to, but annoying others                     came at such a delightful cost that she smiled in return.

                                              "Well then, why don't you enlighten me with                your witty remarks, since I provide such boring detail of my little  endeavors." it was almost impossible for Bellatrix to say anything without  it sounding like a threat, even if only slightly.
