Big Four Ice Caves by StrangeCharmDesign The Big Four Ice Caves in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. The caves are formed from snow-melt streams flowing beneath the lowest elevation glacier in the lower 49 states. Despite prominently posted "stay on the trail" signs and several deaths, people seem perfectly content to traipse around right next to the caves. Our ice cave adventures. Here we are at the Big Four Ice Caves in Washington. I totally recommend it to anyone wanting a fun and free family (and pet) friendly adventure. It's only a couple of miles hike there and since it's mostly uphill, coming back is a breeze! Warning! This is a dangerous area with warning signs all over that the cave can collapse anytime, so I recommend staying out and admiring from outside.
