You got “It’s Not Over” by Daughtry, and my first thought was “Ryan Suter trying to win back his lady love Shea Weber,” in true Hallmark Original Movie style.
Imagine the scene: it’s coming up on December, and Shea and Ryan have been a couple since college, and they’ve become…comfortable with each other. Shea loves it; he likes that he doesn’t have to hide things, that Ryan knows everything about him, that they can just hang out in sweatpants and watch a movie with the snow (in Nashville, lolz) coming down outside and be together. Ryan, on the other hand, feels like they’ve lost their spark. The comfortable life Shea loves is stifling him. And he ends up reconnecting via Facebook with his old childhood sweetheart, Zach. And Zach is just like Ryan remembers him, with a killer smile and a great sense of humor and he makes things flutter in Ryan’s chest that haven’t moved in a long time.
And he thinks, maybe, that he and Zach could make things work, in a way that he and Shea can’t. And eventually it all comes out - Shea knows Ryan’s talking with his old boyfriend but he’s secure enough in their relationship not to begrudge Ryan it (he knows what good friends they were before they dated), but then things escalate and Ryan drops the bombshell that they should go visit their families for Christmas this year - separately, and alone, because he thinks they aren’t working, they’re going nowhere and he can’t live like this forever, and he wants to go back to Minnesota for Christmas (and visit with Zach, which he doesn’t want to say but then that comes out in the heat of the moment too, of course).
To say Shea is heartbroken is an understatement: he’s confused, and hurt, and angry, and Ryan did this at Christmas, their shared favorite holiday, and he ends up taking his broken heart back to Sicamous, and when his story comes out, his family tries to convince him to move back home, telling him he can join the family business the way they’d wanted him to (idk what they do, grow Christmas trees or something Hallmark-y like that). And Shea thinks about it and he agrees, because the only reason he’s stayed in Nashville all these years after school instead of just moving back to BC was because Ryan had a good job there.
And so (inexplicably still before Christmas, because that’s how these things go) Shea and his brother go back to Nashville to get his stuff, while back in Minnesota, Ryan and Zach meet for coffee and have a great time and Ryan tries to kiss Zach and Zach pushes him away because it turns out he’s engaged and also just wanted to be friends again and wtf you have a boyfriend you talk about him all the time! and Ryan says no, he was just telling Zach about his life, he and Shea broke up, and Zach stares at him and says, “That’s right, you were talking about your life - you were talking about Shea.” And Ryan suddenly realizes he’s made a HUGE MISTAKE, and somehow he finds out about Shea coming back to Nashville TO MOVE AWAY FOREVER (probably told by an angry and nosy Swiss model…) and he rushes home as fast as he can and he gets to their door, all huffing and out of breath and…his house is half-empty. Shea’s gone.
So then he’s SUPER SAD, and then Roman wanders in from the kitchen, carrying a box, and it comes out that Shea has packed and returned with some of his stuff to BC, and Roman was left to ship the rest of it back to him, and Shea’s flight like just left so now Ryan has to desperately chase him back to BC, where they end up having a dramatic confrontation in the middle of the field of Christmas trees that Shea’s family owns (the trees are also decorated because like of course they are) and they’re all out of breath and shouty and huffy and Ryan PROFESSES HIS LOVE and then they kiss and the scene zooms out and then the credits roll because have you watched a Hallmark movie recently, they all end immediately after the profession of love and subsequent kiss.
