IT FELT SO ODD TO BE BACK IN HER OLD STOMPING GROUNDS ONCE AGAIN. progress and all of the people in the back were her first true family. she felt so lucky, so privileged to be able to be back, even if it was only for one show while nxt was in the united kingdom. unfortunately, the progress women’s championship match she was supposed to have with jinny wouldn’t at all be possible. she’d slightly injured ( a minor tweak, really ) her right knee again at download and therefore, as a safety precaution, dakota would be replacing her. she was happy for her best friend, but inside it felt like everything good she came across was being ripped away from her without warning. it hurt like hell, but what hurt even more was that she was about to see someone she thought was long gone from her life. someone she never ever wanted out of her life, but over the past year and a half, that’s just the way the cookie crumbled.
she’d hugged dakota tightly backstage after their in–ring announcement that tegan wouldn’t be facing jinny. words of encouragement were sent her way from her team flykicks partner, causing a small, appreciative smile to appear. once the new zealander left, tegan sighed hard, placing her hands on her hips. she was so angry, but not at dakota, not at progress for deciding she wasn’t fit to compete, but at herself for constantly fucking her health over. her right foot swung at a crate, which only served for the bad knee to buckle beneath her even with the brace, and bring her to the floor. luckily, no one was around to see it–—–or so she thought.
“ fuckin’ shite! ” she grumbled, a hand running fingers through brunette locks while the other grabbed the crate in a poor attempt to pull herself back up. tegan only landed, again, on her rear with her fist connecting against the wooden crate. she nearly swung behind her as a hand was placed on her shoulder. eyes flickered up to see it was the one she dreaded seeing the most. “ oi! coulda knocked your teeth down your throat, ya git! ” she huffed at him, swallowing a hard lump in her throat, feeling a tightness in her chest she hadn’t felt. it was similar to the one she’d always felt for him, but more intense. distance makes the heart grow fonder.
