Lilli ein mädchen aus der großstadt
I got this cute DIY cardboard room set by Sam & Julia for Christmas (it is for their little 1/12 mouse family) and I think it will be cute for my little Bild Lilli and Miss Mary Magpie Petite dolls:
Okay-MORE HISTORY FOR CREATIVE PRODUCTS OVER THE YEAR THAT I KNOW WHICH I BELIEVE RELATE TO NEW PENDOG UPDATE!!
So umm yeah spoiler warning…
With that said we can all agree this toy is based of Barbie right??
Well, do I have a history lesson for you!
Did you know Barbie’s design was stolen from Germany?
Specifically, the Bild Lilli doll… which you may be saying “really? Well, is it kinda like the Cabbage Patch dolls where they look nearly identical?”
Well uhh…
Original Barbie:
Bild Lili doll;
So, yeah, near identical, or in my opinion, it is completely the same.
Just like the original baggage patch, this original doll idea was produced by the German company known as Greiner & Hausser GmbH. She was based on Lili, a comic book character created by Reinhard Beuthien in 1955.
Then essentially copied by Ruth Handler, who one girl at my school called a “original girl boss”….who didn’t take kindly to me pointing out she stole one of her most well-known ideas.
But in this case, Miss Hecate appears to be taking the form of a stolen idea, in this case, Lili.
So that had me wondering if all the other iterations to this point are taking the place of stolen ideas, ones from much smaller creators without the money to fight to get their ideas back.
If you want to start to do some research on Lili, feel free to start whenever you like…but this website is my favourite as it says “Mattel Barbie was sold in 1959 (USA) and was loosely based on the Bild Lilli doll.”…then it shows you a photo of Barbie vs Lili…
And you’re all “no that’s not dude that’s not closely based, these dolls are the ones exact same….

there's this great quote about Bild Lilli that made me think of girl!Spider early on, because SH s1-3 does a lot of sexy subtext but with Spider specifically it's always his sensuality at odds with the fact that he never actually gets to have sex with anyone
so he gets both the whore and the repressed virgin characterization, I see people writing a little bit of both in the fics, very cool.
And now this is a deep cut and I wish I could link it but I can't find it, there was a Theo Von podcast where he talks about having his first sexual experience with a girl, and that she had a reputation of a slut at school but he LOVED her and none of that mattered to him... that made me think of early riverspider, that's also a sweet, underutilized dynamic.

Day 17: Most interesting or unusual doll.
This is a 7-inch Bild Lilli clone, also known as a Hong Kong Lilli. I was lucky to find her in a collection of souvenir costume dolls. Clones were already being made of Bild Lilli even before Barbie came along, so this girl could be from the 1950s (which would make her my actual oldest doll, sorry Sindy!). Hong Kong Lillis aren't particularly valuable or even that rare out of box, but she's interesting to me for her small size and her part in the history of fashion dolls.
THE BILD LILLI MOVIE HAS BEEN FOUND! I REPEAT THE BILD LILLI MOVIE HAS BEEN FOUND!!!
