Dear Gus,
Today was a good day. I picked you up from school and we practiced climbing the tree at your school. We left my truck parked there and walked down to Uncle Will’s house and hung out with him and Norah and Bo on the porch. Then you and Norah walked down the street. I heard you calling “DAD! DAD!” so I looked down the street and saw you running up the sidewalk. When you had my attention, you shouted “COLLINS!” And I looked behind you to see your little friend from school following you. You were so proud. Mom and I think you have a little crush on her. You two played with Norah and Bo in the yard while the parents talked. Turns out Collins just moved from Memphis where she lived on the same street Aunt Laura used to live on.
Our friends Bill and Ann-Marie are in town from Shreveport for an unofficial bicycle race Bill has tomorrow, so we made plans to meet them for Loblolly. But first we grabbed some food from Esters and ate in the outdoor space they have set up. Collins and her parents were also headed there, so they met up with us and sat at the next table. Mom came directly from the hospital to meet us. It was a good night.
Dad.

To Russia With Love? Benny Goodman in Moscow
With Russia at the forefront of the nation's thinking today, it's time for this reprise. If you don’t know these reminiscences from bassist Bill Crow on the famous (or should I say infamous) Moscow trip that Benny Goodman and a band made up of one fabulous player after another made as a good will tour, then you’re in for a treat. Bill’s wonderfully humorous style is chock full of hilarious (actually sad in some instances) anecdotes is like a novel you just can’t put down. Enjoy!
