My Favorite Band

Buzzsaw chords and coffee breath a heartbeat set to too-fast drums they built a church out of awkward kids who didn't fit where they were from

Not leather jackets and sneers alone but notebooks, girls and self-doubt too a soundtrack for the ones who felt too soft, too loud, too strange, too you

Descendents with Milo's eyes wide, cartoon still singing about suburban wars about wanting love and wanting thrills

They made it okay to care too much to overthink, to fall apart to write a song that's two minutes long but somehow maps your entire heart

"I'm not a loser," the speakers scream but it still cracks on every line because believing it's the hardest part when you've been left behind

From garages soaked in teenage sweat to stages where the old punks stand still shouting every word they knew like time never touched the band

It's caffeine, girls, and growing up wrong it's trying hard and still falling flat it's every dumb, sincere mistake you never quite recover from and laughing anyway after that

Because they never pretended to have it all figured out just turned confusion into melody and insecurity into a shout

And somewhere between the noise and truth between the joke and the sting they taught a generation of broken kids that it's okay to feel everything
