Like an air traffic controller, he's already had to direct one of his yappier regulars away from the booth he was occupying facing Billie to send him to the bar instead for his next tipple.

( One of the few downsides to owning a bar was drinking in it in peace when he wasn't actually working was damn near impossible. )
