“I’ve missed this”
Jim rolls off Joyce sated and breathless, “wow I’ve missed this,” he kisses her on the cheek and attempts to pull her closer to him, but she’s already getting up.
“This shouldn’t have happened,” Joyce frantically picks up discarded clothing from her bedroom floor rushing to get redressed.
He sighs and rubs his face, “Joyce….”
“Don’t do that. I’m married and you’re in town for your mother’s funeral. Don’t make this out to be something it’s not,” she gets a fresh pair of panties out of her drawer. He watches as she steps into them, dragging them up her legs until the thin straps are situated against her hips.
“Actually…I’m staying,” she finally meets his eyes, the shock evident on her face, “Hawkins needs a new chief and I said yes,” he sits up, leaning against the headboard still fully naked.
“Regardless this can’t happen again,” she throws his clothes at him.
“You really think Lonnie’s never strayed?” she’s visibly rattled by his statement making him think he’d gone a little too far.
“My marriage is none of your business,” she snaps at him.
“Maybe not, but it’s certainly the talk of the town,” he slides his legs over the edge of the bed and gets into a sitting position with his feet planted firmly on the floor.
“You believe everything you hear or just the bad stuff about my husband?” she questions, crossing her arms.
“It’s easy to keep bruises covered with clothes, but when you’re naked…not so much,” he stands up and faces her having put his clothes back on.
“It’s…It’s not like that,” she looks down at her hands.
He tilts her chin up to look at him, “you deserve more is all I’m sayin’,” he kisses her on the cheek before disappearing out of her bedroom and leaving her house.
She doesn’t talk to him again until Will goes missing.
