It was an honor to contribute to @espn The Magazine's feature about Bill Kennedy, NBA referee and the sweetest guy you'll ever meet. He is the second openly gay ref in the league and was outed on the court when a player last December yelled a slur at him after making a call. After that, he issued a brief statement on Dec. 13, telling Yahoo Sports, "I am proud to be an NBA referee, and I am proud to be a gay man. I am following in the footsteps of others who have self-identified in the hopes that will send a message to young men and women in sports that you must allow no one to make you feel ashamed of who you are."
