Control or Controled?
The NRA is against universal background checks. I don’t see why background checks would be a big problem. You can’t even get the simplest of jobs without having a background check and a drug test. I got a job as an operator for a car dealership and they took two weeks doing the background check and waiting on the drug test results from the follicle test I took. Of course I passed but fact of the matter is you can’t flip a burger in this country without a background test.
I’ll bet you if you wanted to get a job with the NRA you’d have to go through a battery of tests and checks before you could pass muster. I think they ought not be so paranoid about background checks because they are part of our lives these days. You can’t buy a car, a house or get insurance without having your financial life scrutinized or a criminal check or pre-existing medical check.
I’m not against gun ownership. I’m a Texan. However I chuckle when my gun enthusiast friends talk about when the "Shit hits the fan, I’m gonna be ready!" They say that with this underlying tone of almost wanting the shit to hit the fan just so they can say, "See told ya!" These are my same Billy Bubba friends who insist they live by every word of the Bible, Old testament, New Testament, doesn’t matter, they live by every word and yet they eat shrimp, pork, use God’s name in vain, drink copious amounts of beer and in one instance that I know of, a little adultery. My Billy Bubba friends are my friends though and I do love them. They’re characters and for the most part they have really good hearts even if they’re not aware of their hypocrisies.
I think the men and women of the NRA are not too unlike my Billy Bubba friends. I’m sure for the most part they have good hearts, I’m sure for the most part they are well intentioned but I’m certain for the most part they’re ignoring that wrench in their guts that is saying, "Let it go. Work with the other side." But like any other major industry they’re intermarried, gun manufacturers intermingled with gun stores and shows, who are part of a greater society of skeet shoots, target competitions and collectors. They are all tied together. So if one person of the NRA thinks it’s a good idea to limit access to multi-round clips, semi-automatic guns etc., his voice would not be heard. He would either not speak up as to not upset his environment or he would be silenced.
So what’s a person to do when you don’t know when some lunatic, mercenary or militiaman is going to let the shit hit the fan? We just live our lives and be kind to one another and maybe, just maybe not get shot watching a movie or going to school. It’s true that if a person has intent to cause harm, he will indeed cause harm no matter the weapon. That is true. But the NRA shouldn’t be holding the door wide open.
That’s my .02.
