Bear with me because this is very out there, but I recently rewatched Billy Lynn (I don’t particularly like the movie but I’m interested in anything even remotely related to Taylor and Joe’s really good in it). I don’t know why I didn’t make this connection the first time I watched it, but still... (spoilers ahead, in case anyone cares lol) in one of the last scenes, Billy needs to decide whether to go back to Iraq or to stay at home (I’m oversimplifying everything, the movie is deeper, of course). There’s this cheerleader he’s met (and done stuff with) and they meet up one last time, they kiss, and then he says “girl, I’d just about run away with you”. It’s not supposed to be a romantic scene, because thanks to her answer (she’s like “you’re a decorated hero and you have to go back, but I’ll pray for you”) he understands that she’s part of the “big machine” as well and she’s caught up in the war rhetoric as much as everyone else is. Therefore the illusion he had that she was the only real thing he had (and the girl he lost his virginity to) kinda crumbles in a second, and it’s actually a pretty heartbreaking scene (this is my interpretation, at least).
BUT... the fact that Taylor went to the premiere of the movie with her friends and her mum on the 12th of November and watched this exact scene and then a couple of weeks later decided to run away to London with him and added that exact line to Call It What You Want’s bridge makes me a bit... suspicious? I’m NOT saying that she took one of the biggest decisions of her life based on a movie, but if she was already on the fence about doing it, maybe seeing the movie might’ve pushed in that direction? I don’t know, I’m just clowning here hahah. I know that the phrase “run away” is super common and everything, but the timing of it (and the story of Billy, which is very similar to the way Taylor was in 2016, in many ways) makes me kinda suspicious
