Lunch with Uncle Billy and Josh and sharing the big news with them!
After lunch, Renee talked about cases with Billy. She was in the early weeks of pregnancy and her work routine was pretty much the same! Renee asked if she was allowed access to the Strangerville archives to read about. At times, she thinks about Veronica and Strangerville. There were too many unanswered questions about the dangerous place and she wonders if she will ever see Veronica again. "I'll check with the director, I don't see why not," Billy replied.
It was late into the night and Renee was back at the station. She needed to find the problem with Vincent's phone and why his messages didn't send. Renee relayed all the information Vincent told her and he emphasised using the hospital wifi. They figured his phone was hacked this way and someone was spying on him, preventing him from making calls or messages. With the cyber security knowledge of Captain Vazquez, they tracked the IP address of the device used to intercept Vincent's phone. And the location was Strangerville.
Now Renee had all sorts of thoughts in her head. Despite it being late at night, she found the whole process fascinating. And all the links to Strangerville. The police may be the only way to uncover more about the place and find out what the hell is going on there. Perhaps she should switch from her history course to criminology and become a detective. Yes, she will do that. Renee doesn't like history as much as she did anyway and she liked the idea of solving crimes.
Billy had the letter in his hands. Renee searched his face looking for any signs of hope, but there was none. Like Dar'leen, he explained the same situation about Strangerville and how no police have been able to enter its borders. His team and current detective position were not equipped for the job and it was too risky to face the unknown. He speculated Veronica would return after completing her affairs and they would question her then. Renee began talking about Vincent's disappearance and then there was a knock on the door...
Payton came in. Before Renee had a chance to speak, Payton frantically told them what had happened to Vincent this past week and how he was in hospital. She had no messages come through and thought nothing was wrong. It was only when he was discharged, that everything started showing up on her phone, including Bryce's missed calls and messages. Everyone was worried and she knew to come straight to the station to inform Billy that Vincent was ok.
Billy: Hey Vinny! It's great to see you…and Renee? Fancy seeing you two together.
Renee: [lets go of Vincent and steps towards Billy] Hi Uncle Billy, we were just hanging out-
Vincent: [pulls Renee closer before she says anymore] Actually Chief, we're seeing each other now.
Billy: You guys are dating? Who would've thought, congrats! Hmm your Dad will have so many questions.
Renee: I can already imagine what he'll say, but I haven't told Dad or anyone at home yet…
Billy: Aha I'm the first to know! Better tell them soon. And Vinny, can I speak with you for a moment?
Billy: I'm so sorry we couldn't make much progress on your Dad's case…again.
Vincent: [uncomfortable] You don't have to keep apologising to me Billy. Your team tried your best.
Billy: Ah it's just a habit [hesitates] we tried back then and there's still no progress now.
Vincent: No, it's alright. Some team will solve it. I'm a step closer to graduating, a step closer to becoming a prosecutor…if detectives can't solve it, then I will. I know you have trouble with acquiring certain info and confronting suspects but I'm [pauses uncertainty on his face]…confident the law route will help me there.
Billy: Don't stress too much ok? It's been 11 years now, you're safe Vinny.
Vincent: I know, but I want to make sure that…he's you know. Dead.
Billy: If you ever wanna talk about it, my office is always open. Or contact our team.
Vincent: Thanks Billy. And you should know…when the time is right, I'll go and find out. There's no stopping me.

Billy's voicemail: Hey Bryce! Looking forward to seeing you soon. Can't believe Robbie's off to uni, we're getting old huh. Has Renee told you about her boyfriend? I saw them today. He's called Vincent [smiles] a good lad. He's close friends with Charlie! Practically watched him grow up. So please, you don't have to worry about him.
Billy did not oversleep. In fact, he's been getting little to no sleep. Billy has been working on an old case on missing people and his team decided to put the case back in the archives. There wasn't enough evidence to solve it and he should be working on other stuff. Luckily he had the rest of the day off, so he quickly went to pick up Renee.
Yep that was Charlie in the background and he's showing off his new haircut to Renee, he's a bit self-absorbed 😂 but he's happy to see her again and is excited to show the spice festival that's in town!
