Pittsburgh’s brilliant former light-heavyweight champion Billy Conn died #OnThisDay in 1993 aged 75. Conn won 63 fights, lost 11 and fought one draw from 1935 until 1948 and nearly dethroned heavyweight king Joe Louis in 1941. Way ahead on points after 12 rounds, Billy elected to slug it out with the champ and was promptly played out by the “Brown Bomber.” "I couldn't knock out anybody,” remembered Conn. "And I tried to knock out Joe Louis." #boxing #BoxingNews #BillyConn (at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)
