“For like 6 months straight when I was about fourteen, my brain decided to have two stars collide and develop an entire Road Movie-esque adventure set in the early 1970, where Tom and Billy were on a roadtrip across the US, from New York to LA, in a station wagon, getting into all kinds of trouble and sleeping (and more) in the back of said station wagon. Tom tried to posit himself as a man of reason and calm, whereas Billy was determined to be open to the inherent chaos of the world and the raw human self; but they would often trade their roles between public and personal conversations, always the others' foil when it came to love and loss and internalized issues. The impetus? No clue, I don't even think there's a photo of these two together, but something about them jived in my brain very intensely, and I would come up with new scenarios every day for them, none of which I wrote down in the end despite wanting to. Then one day my brain's engine backfired on me and I thought to myself, "wow, what was all of that?", and the intense, near-constant daydreams became significantly less omnipresent. But I do still think about them occasionally, and the intense creative exercise their adventures and conversations gave me has left a lasting positive impact on my storytelling skills and on my ability to not let the negative opinions of others effect my interests and hobbies.
