When it comes to the increasingly touchy subject of Bingewatching, I have to confess that I never could just do a whole show in one sitting.
Over the last near decade, I actually worked out a system.
First, two episodes each from two shows a day over a four hour block from 6pm to 9pm. Usually, I try to match them up in terms of episode count when they have twenty plus minute run times. In case of odd number counts, a day or two will run from 5:15pm to 9pm.
In between two of these pairings, I have one live action series such as Black Mirror or Lupin that take up forty minutes to a full hour between 7pm and 8pm.
After what I consider a quarter, I commit myself to a long running TV series. Usually an Anime such as Dragon Ball or Fairy Tail which I can divide across four parts.
I have each one divided into three episodes per day so I not only have a set time for it but also a reasonable pace that will let each episode sit for me across each day. I start at 6:30pm and break for thirty minute intermissions.
I feel like this has been a good compromise between binging and weekly viewings. When viewing Broadchurch, the anticipating for Season Two’s final episodes had me on pins and needles. God, that was such an experience...
I think that bingewatching will never go away. However, for those who might have an issue with it. That doesn’t mean we can’t have our own ways of making a system of sorts for it.
