Before Candace could actually exit the room, someone else came towards her. “I greet you,” the girl with the strangely luminous skin and hair said as she walked up and made a slight movement that was almost like a bow, “I am Binye. I did not see you at the morning gathering, but you appeared in the percussions room earlier. Are you a student?”
Apparently at least a couple of people had noticed her in the music room. Candace was still wondering if this girl was an alien... but... ‘perhaps it’s better not to ask right now...’ Candace smiled and gave a brief nod, “Yes, I am. I arrived a bit late in the day and missed the morning gathering. My name is Candace MIranae.”
“Ah, so nice to meet you, fellow student! Have you been able to find everything you needed? I would be pleased to help you if not.” Binye managed somehow to look both concerned and friendly at the same time. “Yes, thank you. I ran into the Class President earlier and he was able to print me out a copy of everything I missed this morning.” Candace resisted bringing back the images of Benjamin’s smile to mind again, and brandished the small packet of papers. Just then, the bell rang, signaling the end of this first day at Mercury High.
“Ah, the bell! You are sure you are good then?” As Candace nodded, slightly amused at this insistence, Binye smiled, “Very good then, I shall see you more tomorrow. I must get to my part-time work.” She turned and Candace watched her neon skin and hair walk jauntily out the door. What an interesting person. ‘I really want to know if she’s an alien. Well, I shall hope to find out soon.’ Candace walked out the door and joined the throng heading for the school exit.
Upon reaching the exit, Candace paused... her broom would surely be noticeable here. She reluctantly decided to take the bicycle home, grateful she’d summoned it here earlier when no one was around.
She had tried to talk to a couple of other students before leaving the building, but it seemed like everyone was in so much of a hurry to leave, they didn’t notice her approaching or trying to talk to them. She shrugged internally. For a first day, not bad at all. She’d have to try and find some more information on her Great Aunt’s exploits here to see how best SHE could exploit the connection.
As Candace stepped inside the door, allowing her ears to absorb the sounds, her eyes likewise absorbed the sights. And what sights! Faith’s brothers might not be much to look at, but they were clearly talented musically. She glanced to her right, at the pale-skinned guy in the green blazer. ‘Is he a vampire?’ she thought to herself, ‘and also... a hunk’. Beyond him, another guy in a leather jacket was clearly grooving to the beat. ‘ALSO a hunk.’ Immediately in front of her was a third hunk with rippling muscles watching the drummer and tapping his foot.
Candace moved further into the room, no one really paying her any mind as they were all focused on the music. ‘Wonderful’ she thought... ‘... how lovely and wonderful.’ She might fit in here after all. She moved a bit further into the room and then stood in a spot where she could survey not only the musicians but all the other occupants of the room. One girl in particular caught her eye with iridescent skin, neon hair, and utterly opaque black eyes. ‘Wait... is she an alien?! Or is that just a fad I’ve never heard of?’ Candace considered thoughtfully.
From this vantage point, she could see three MORE hunks. ‘My my,’ she thought... ‘This might be fun, too.’ A small genuine smile slowly emerged on her face as she continued to take in the music and her fellow students. ‘Yes, this might be fun. Especially if being Tabitha’s great niece had benefits.’
Faith chattered as they exited the music room and walked the large U to the drums and DJ room on the other side of the school, telling Candace about the school, mentioning the names of the other students, and making sure she knew when mealtimes were in the cafeteria. Candace nodded and gave small encouragements and smiles at appropriate moments. The school was far larger than she had imagined, and seemed to have a different room for every possible subject... including several different music rooms, each focusing on a different type of instrument.
As they approached the room where Faith’s brothers, Joe and Jules, were apparently holding most of the rest of the class enrapt with their playing, Candace could hear the drumbeat already. She paused and put a hand on Faith’s arm. “I know you were going to introduce me, and I really do appreciate it,” she gave Faith a warm smile, “but do you think it would be okay if I just quietly walked in and soaked up the music?” As satisfying as Faith’s reaction had been, she really wanted to size up some of the other students before being ‘announced’ to them all.
Faith stopped and turned to look at her, then smiled again. “Sure! Come find me later if you want. I should get to the science classroom. Mum will be so pleased when I tell her! Joe and Jules are always the popular ones, but won’t they be pink when they realize later that I found you first!” Faith gave a light chuckle. “I’ll give you my number, so you can call me anytime if you need help!” Candace exchanged numbers with her and then watched her walk nimbly back down the hall humming a tune. She turned and gave herself a slight nod as she walked up to the door of the room from which all the sound was emanating, and then turned the handle quietly and stepped inside.
OOC Note: The girl on the far right in the above photo is Bailey Swain, another of the townie teens. (I don’t have any other photos of her... xD)
When I was visiting each teen in turn to have them acquire jobs, I found Binye freezing in a parking lot. Apparently, someone cast a cold spell on her.
