This is actually the only home that is not a microhome. Due to some various things, Mikhail ended up in one of the starter homes in Moonlight Falls.
Upon reaching the exit, Candace paused... her broom would surely be noticeable here. She reluctantly decided to take the bicycle home, grateful she’d summoned it here earlier when no one was around.
She had tried to talk to a couple of other students before leaving the building, but it seemed like everyone was in so much of a hurry to leave, they didn’t notice her approaching or trying to talk to them. She shrugged internally. For a first day, not bad at all. She’d have to try and find some more information on her Great Aunt’s exploits here to see how best SHE could exploit the connection.
Candace turned a small smile on Mikhail, “So... what is that student doing in the machine there?”
“Well, it has not been fully explained, as the teachers are not present today, but my impression is that they were loaned to the school in case students wanted to volunteer to be test subjects for these machines. They’re meant to.... enlarge? our ability to learn. For a short time only.” Mikhail fell silent for a moment after this exposition, then concluded with, “I myself am unsure I would want to volunteer.”
Candace felt surprised all over again. “Wow, cutting edge science, eh? I’m not sure I’d volunteer either. I suppose maybe if I was desperate... hey, isn’t that girl the daughter of one of our teachers? Faith was telling me earlier who everyone was. I suppose if my mother was a teacher, I might be desperate too.”
“Well,” Mikhail started to speak then paused for a few moments... “I was told this school offers every -possible- advantage. Not every possibility need be utilized, eh?” He gave a slow toothy grin, which showed off his fangs.
‘Good grief,’ thought Candace to herself, ‘just what kind of place is this really, and why did Aunt Tabitha want so much for me to go here?’ She thanked Mikhail for the information and, having completely forgotten about her intent to ask about the information given early in the morning in her surprise, excused herself to wander about some more.
Candace looked back at the screen and gave a soft gasp, “Oh. Oh my... I think that’s a more intimate view of muscle and sinew than I ever really wanted to see...”
Jamal looked pleased, “Oh, I LOVE when they get detailed like this. It’s so hard to understand sometimes from just text descriptions, or diagrams. There’s nothing like seeing the real thing!”
Mikhail looked thoughtful, “Intense, but interesting.”
When the video ended, both students exchanged information with her, though Jamal seemed unenthusiastic about it. “Well,” he said, “they told us this morning to make sure to network with all our fellow students because some projects may require collaboration outside school grounds and hours,” and ended with a shrug. He turned and left the room after that, throwing out to Mikhail behind him, “I’m going to go check out the computer room.”
Candace watched him go with an internal glare. He hadn’t even offered to tell her what else she might have missed that morning. She’d have to get someone else to tell her.
After a short bit, many of the students started filtering out of the drums room. Candace decided that a room with less noise might allow her more latitude for interaction with some of her fellow students. As she stepped out the door she could just see the pale-skinned ... vampire? heading around the corner at the end of the hall. She followed and joined him and another guy into a room full of what looked like various types of research machines. The two males were staring at a video playing on a monitor on the wall and seemed a bit perplexed by the lecture in the video.
“Do you think we came in halfway through?” the dark-skinned guy was saying as Candace stepped lightly in between them to get a better view of the screen. As she got a closer look, she suddenly let out a guffaw startling him. “Pffft. Ha! I hope this is meant as a review! I learned about ‘funny’ bones a couple of years ago.” There was a silent pause as the dark-skinned guy to her left recovered, then gave her an irritated look, “This is not about ‘funny’ bones. It’s about the nervous system and how it can be affected by injuries in this area. Who are you, anyways?”
Candace was silently irritated, but the effusive feeling from the music room was still with her a bit, making her reply more moderate than it might otherwise have been, “My name is Candace Miranae. I’m a new student here, but I arrived late due to some complications. And you are?” She gave him an expectant and arch look. He failed to look intimidated. “... some complications, eh?” he repeated her words, his expression saying that her vague answer was suspect. Then he shrugged. “My name is Jamal Wilson.” He pointed to the pale-skinned guy on her right, “That’s Mikhail.”
Candace turned to address Mikhail, “Greetings! I hope you won’t think me rude, but... are you a vampire?” Mikhail smiled briefly and then bowed. “I am.” Candace struggled to find a polite way to ask about how he went about ‘feeding’, but before she could reply, he spoke again. “You needn’t worry though. I grow my own plasma plants, and have no need of other nutrient sources. Else I’d not be allowed on this prestigious campus. Be at ease.”
As Candace stepped inside the door, allowing her ears to absorb the sounds, her eyes likewise absorbed the sights. And what sights! Faith’s brothers might not be much to look at, but they were clearly talented musically. She glanced to her right, at the pale-skinned guy in the green blazer. ‘Is he a vampire?’ she thought to herself, ‘and also... a hunk’. Beyond him, another guy in a leather jacket was clearly grooving to the beat. ‘ALSO a hunk.’ Immediately in front of her was a third hunk with rippling muscles watching the drummer and tapping his foot.
Candace moved further into the room, no one really paying her any mind as they were all focused on the music. ‘Wonderful’ she thought... ‘... how lovely and wonderful.’ She might fit in here after all. She moved a bit further into the room and then stood in a spot where she could survey not only the musicians but all the other occupants of the room. One girl in particular caught her eye with iridescent skin, neon hair, and utterly opaque black eyes. ‘Wait... is she an alien?! Or is that just a fad I’ve never heard of?’ Candace considered thoughtfully.
From this vantage point, she could see three MORE hunks. ‘My my,’ she thought... ‘This might be fun, too.’ A small genuine smile slowly emerged on her face as she continued to take in the music and her fellow students. ‘Yes, this might be fun. Especially if being Tabitha’s great niece had benefits.’
Faith chattered as they exited the music room and walked the large U to the drums and DJ room on the other side of the school, telling Candace about the school, mentioning the names of the other students, and making sure she knew when mealtimes were in the cafeteria. Candace nodded and gave small encouragements and smiles at appropriate moments. The school was far larger than she had imagined, and seemed to have a different room for every possible subject... including several different music rooms, each focusing on a different type of instrument.
As they approached the room where Faith’s brothers, Joe and Jules, were apparently holding most of the rest of the class enrapt with their playing, Candace could hear the drumbeat already. She paused and put a hand on Faith’s arm. “I know you were going to introduce me, and I really do appreciate it,” she gave Faith a warm smile, “but do you think it would be okay if I just quietly walked in and soaked up the music?” As satisfying as Faith’s reaction had been, she really wanted to size up some of the other students before being ‘announced’ to them all.
Faith stopped and turned to look at her, then smiled again. “Sure! Come find me later if you want. I should get to the science classroom. Mum will be so pleased when I tell her! Joe and Jules are always the popular ones, but won’t they be pink when they realize later that I found you first!” Faith gave a light chuckle. “I’ll give you my number, so you can call me anytime if you need help!” Candace exchanged numbers with her and then watched her walk nimbly back down the hall humming a tune. She turned and gave herself a slight nod as she walked up to the door of the room from which all the sound was emanating, and then turned the handle quietly and stepped inside.
OOC Note: The girl on the far right in the above photo is Bailey Swain, another of the townie teens. (I don’t have any other photos of her... xD)
