Because if they wanted medical equality like they claim, then they would be instead fighting for universal healthcare, reform on pharmaceutical prices, etc, so that their "goal" is accomplished but in a safe way with medical trials and not some rando in their basement who injects someone with muscular distrophy and fucks it up and kills them or makes it worse
This documentary already said that there's no reason for these gene therapies to cost as much as they do, because they are all based on taxpayer funded NIH research. So the problem isn't that "this technology is only in the hands of companies", it's the same as any other issue with healthcare right now - there's no regulations to stop them from charging whatever they want
