La biohacker neoyorquina Heather Dewey-Hagborg hace proyectos de bio-arte, como estos retratos sacados de chicles, cigarros y otros desechos de la calle... recopiló saliba, cabellos y demás muestras orgánicas de estos objetos para obtener la información genética suficiente como para poder reproducir en 3D el rostro de sus dueños. Incluso los imprime y los exhibe montados en una pared con la información completa de la fuente (como si fueran alguna especie trofeo de cacería humana). Mediante técnicas de fenotipado de ADN, demostró cuánto se puede revelar sobre una persona a partir de un solo rastro genético, lo que plantea interrogantes sobre la privacidad. El proyecto además cuestiona la precisión y la ética de la reconstrucción facial basada en ADN, destacando posibles sesgos raciales e implicaciones legales en un mundo donde la tecnología y la "vigilancia genética" que esta permite puede revelar tu identidad a partir de todo lo que dejas atrás, en un espacio público, un vaso, una servilleta, un baño, donde sea...

DNA verzamelen wordt steeds gemakkelijker en goedkoper. Zo kun je online het speeksel van mensen kopen voor een onderzoek. Dit is wat kunstenaar Heather Dewey-Hagborg heeft gedaan. In het speeksel zit DNA waaruit je medische informatie kunt halen: welke oogkleur heeft diegene, hoe oud is diegene, maar ook wat diegene eet of hoeveel hij/zij sport. Voor STRP onderzoekt Heather Dewey-Hagborg hoe deze ‘biotechnologie’ positief effect kan hebben op ons als mens en samenleving. Met haar project LoveSick ontwikkelt zij in samenwerking met wetenschappers een ‘retrovirus’. Iemand die dit virus binnen krijgt, krijgt een verhoging van ‘oxytocine’. Dit heet ook wel het liefdeshormoon, omdat je er een gelukkig gevoel van krijgt net alsof je verliefd bent. Zou de wereld niet wat meer liefde kunnen gebruiken?

For the last many years, a key area of my creative work has been focused on ‘economics’; what and how we value tangibles and intangibles, as the framework for social cohesion and development. In that context, my interests and works address the nature of ‘information’, within a better whole systems understanding of ecological economics; care of our household. Finally, I have learned that all of my works in the realms of the senses, have primarily been about people, about how to respect and work together, about how to collaborate beyond short term project goals, and about how creative intention, attitude and example can inspire people to needed transcendence.
