Ameenah Gurib
(born 1959) Biodiversity scientist and president
Ameenah Gurib studied biodiversity science and received a PhD from Exeter University in the United Kingdom. She returned home to Surinam to teach at the University of Mauritius. Engaging in public and community affairs led in 2015 to her becoming the first woman elected President of the Republic of Mauritius.
