Would you recommend taking biol 341 or biol 363 as a lab course? Thanks!!
I personally enjoyed 341 more, because I’m more interested in genetics and molecular biology, but if you really like animal physiology, 363 might be more interesting to you. 363 felt like more of a drag for me, because I’m not much of an animal person and I’m really squirmy about blood and other bodily fluids...
Hi! I'm going into my 4th year in biology this fall and am having trouble deciding which labs to take. I read your review of the labs you took, BIOL 341 & 363 and I am planning to take 363, but I'm not sure which other lab to take. I read in your 341 review that it helps to have taken BIOL 335 (which I have not) so I'm probably looking at BIOL 340 or 337. I was wondering if you had any insight on which labs were better than others or if you had friends who enjoyed the labs they took? Thanks!
340 is a good compliment to 341; my friends who took that pair say they hand-in-hand. 340 wasn’t very good when my friends and I were taking our labs, they said 340 required a lot of work, it wasn’t too hard, but you had to take the time to go into the lab to work projects outside of scheduled lab times. They all said that they felt 341 was a lot more manageable than 340, and although 335 is a good to take before or with 341, it’s not required.
Which would you say had a higher workload, Biol 341 or 343?
It’s hard to say for me because I took 343 in the summer, there were a lot of small assignments, but they were pretty easy. BIOL 341′s pre-labs and assignments were hard some times and took a while to complete.

Depends on the other 4 courses, but the work load is kind of heavy, especially for a 2-credit course.
Hi! Based on what you have heard, what are your feedbacks between Biol 340 and BIOL 341? Easiness, workload, interesting lelevel etc. Thanks!
They’re both useful for sure. BIOL 341 will give you the basic skills to work in any laboratory that uses molecular genetic laboratory techniques (cloning, PCR, DNA extraction, screening, transduction etc.). BIOL 340 will give you experience with protein analysis (such as western blots), I never took BIOL 340 so I don’t know exactly what they learn. I have friends who took both and said although both were pretty interesting and useful, the workload for BIOL 340 far exceeds that of BIOL 341. However, if you’re interested in molecular and cell biology, and want to work in a lab, the two courses will complement each other. The grades end up being similar for both courses.
How was BIOL 341? What kind of techniques did you learn in it? Also BIOL 361 and BIOL 362?
BIOL 341: Lab course. Liked it, but lots of work. PCR, Agarose Gel Electrophoresis, DNA extraction, DNA purification, Cloning, Restriction Enzyme Digestion
BIOL 361: Lecture. Animal physiology, extension of BIOL 204.
BIOL 362: Lecture. Cell physiology, animals and plants.

Did you take BIOL 204 or 205? which one is easier in terms of work load? I am planning to take BIOL 204 this summer along with BIOL 341 and BIOL 361 (these two are in same term). I am not sure if it is doable. Thanks!
I took Biol 204 and it wasn’t too bad, but it has a lab component which can get to be quite a bit of work. If you put that on top of Biol 341, which also has a lot of work for a lab course (more than Biol 204 lab), it can get pretty crazy. I’ve also heard somewhere that you can’t register for two labs at one time during the summer, but you might want to go ask an advisor!
Biol 361 and Biol 341 is pretty doable as Biol 361 only has two midterms and a final.

In previous years, Biol 363 was offered, but last year, schedules suddenly changed and Biol 341 was offered instead. I’m really hesitant to predict which Biology courses will be offered this summer because of the sudden change last year with numerous “new” courses being offered while other ones were no longer offered, despite running in previous years.
