hey there, thank you for all that you do . o did want to ask if there's an overlap between mania (in bipolar disorder) and hpd symptom wise. i have bipolar disorder but ive been showing symptoms of hpd aswell . thank you .
it's my pleasure!
i don't know much about bipolar disorders unfortunately. HPD symptoms do seem like something that could be seen during a manic episode. if they don't show up outside of mania, it'd just be due to bipolar and not comorbid HPD. but if there's HPD symptoms all the time then it's worth taking a closer look to see if that's an additional diagnosis.
similarities:
disinhibition (impulsivity, recklessness, irresponsibility, lack of planning)
mood swings
depression
inappropriately sexual or provocative behaviour
dramatic, theatrical
suggestible, gullible
need for attention
talkative, pressure of speech
lack of insight into disordered behaviour
thinks relationships are more intimate than they are
uses physical appearance to gain attention
exaggerated, over the top emotions
differences:
mania can have psychosis, which is not present in HPD
grandiosity, increased self-esteem (mania)
flight of ideas, racing thoughts (mania)
irritability (mania)
decreased need for sleep, increased energy (mania)
overly concerned with impressing others (HPD)
need to fish for compliments (HPD)
unable to deal with rejection & criticism (HPD)
