the day storm petrels r mentioned in a sparkbird song is the day i will rest peacefully. maybe they have been but i havent been keeping up a lot i just found out storm petrels are STINKY!!
heres some other fun facts i really like about them old scottish sailors would use them as candles!! they would take the bird and stuff a wick into it , as they were easier to find then wax! their oily bodies were perfect for candles. they hunt by pitter-patering ontop the water, eating small crustaceans and fish and plankton--- because of this pattern, they are called st peters bird as it looks like their walking on water!! their apart of tubenose birds, which places them with ablatrosses! their also relatives to the procellariformes family, which is where i got my usename from they are often called water witches!! this is because some tales will link it to witches that bring storms, and STORM petrels are often seen.. well, around storms! the main reason their seen during this time is because they will look for any shelter to hide from storms, and that will include sailors boats. this also made them seen as a bad omen-- kind of like the black cats of the sea, as i like to call them. i mean, associated with witches and seen as bad luck? sounds pretty similar. the least storm petrel is also the smallest seabird in the world, also slightly smaller than a finch, but larger than a bee hummingbird- about double the size. despite being so small, they can live up to 30 years! north american river otters will hunt them!! i thought that was pretty interesting they have really weak legs!! stupid bird forgot leg day they are called mother careys chickens by sailors!! mother carey, also known as the virgin mary!! lots of divine and religious names ... which is why they interest me so much - im not religious fyi this also means u could say storm petrel butt instead of chicken butt. i have done this before. i know im cringe shutt uppp. okthats all.
