saw beautiful goldfinches on my run 👍
I do not currently have enough internet connectivity to send photos of them, but I am traveling right now and am in a region with so many birds I’ve never seen in person before!! I’m so, so happy
I got to see roseate spoonbills!! And so many different kinds of heron! And pelicans! And frigates! And flamingos! And cormorants! I love them so so dearly they’re so cool I love birds
FOOD? FOOD? FOOD? FOOD? FOOD? FOOD?
I got a buncha new followers so i assume you wanna hear about baby birds Todays notes: I got to spend time with the nestlings aka the gummy bears aka the wiwis (no one calls them this but me, in my head. i would say it to their face but wire mother cannot let wiwis know she exists)
To get the wiwis to gape (open their mouth) you have to do fuckin. bird cocomelon to them
and once you gotta pull out the fluttering youve already lost. baby is not impressed.
Specific patient report: -nestling cardinal was SO GOOD, ate a big cricket despite being a little pink eraser -older nestling robins refused to eat anything which was tough because not only did i have to feed them but i had to feed them food coated in yucky vitamins. their nest by the end of my shift was like 10% mealworms. -We got two new baby baby robins and one wasnt moving at all and i was like uh oh but once I stuffed a mealworm in there he realized he wasnt dead and this wasnt hell -wiwi starlings are SO good at eating. unfortunately this is less charming once they're fluttering around biting your arm bc wire mother isn't giving them 25 mealworms for one meal
I keep flipflopping between relief and FOMO when I see the fuzzy babies
