Thoughts on Bird Box
I saw this picture on Facebook (whom I shared my thoughts on the comments), so I thought I’d come here and share my thoughts as well with you guys. So here goes:
Mentally ill people, I believe, were able to see because they are used to their fears. So having it come to life is not new. However, it affected them differently because they WANTED it and didn’t fear it.
The school managed to survive because for the creature to have its effect on you, you HAVE to see it. So that’s why the blind were not affected and instead of freaking out, they used their disability to their advantage and made the school a stronghold against the creatures and a haven for other survivors. Releasing birds as a warning system for sighted people in case the creatures were around.
They survived five years with kids because, contrary to the general population, Tom had military experience, and Malorie was “raised by wolves” so they both had survival instincts on point. And the kids, being raised by them, survived because of their teachings.
As for the creatures themselves, I think the reasons they weren’t shown was 1) because it builds up the suspense and is more dramatic that way, 2) it leaves it up to the audience to imagine what the creature looked like according to their beliefs (every religion has their own version according to Charlie), and 3) because they didn’t want to make it and then have the audience disappointed. Like, “I think they did too much on the creature and it should have been done this way.” Get what I mean?
As for Lucy and MGK, I think they died at some point.
