OH DID YOU ASK THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THIS of course I fucking do. The birdbriel fic I'm doing has ALL the bird instincts I know of shoved in.

They're on Earth when spring comes and he gets all broody. Feathers fluffed up, constantly cooing and chirping at his machine...at his machine mate. Oh, wouldn't they look simply wonderful, curled up in their nest together? Perhaps with a few eggs of their own, too...

He obviously does everything in his power to get V1 in the mood for it. Shows off his beautiful wings, brings V1 a bunch of gifts and keeps offering his blood. And of course, screeches at anything that could pose mild danger to them - doesn't matter that V1 is the stronger one, Gabriel needs to prove he's worthy! Imagine him doing the pose of a defensive owl at like, I don't know, a little fox coming to check them out haha.

You should definitely ask them to be your mate, someday. You went through so much together and your love is something special.

On that note...what exactly changes when you're mated? Is there a special "ritual" for it, like a wedding?

I will ask someday if we’re as compatible as I believe we are, it would be very nice to finally take a mate of my own and to spend the rest of our existence’s together

You wish to know about mating rituals?? Very well then, it’s been a while since I’ve explained this to another being so forgive me if anything doesn’t make to much sense-

At times, when an angel decides to mate but doesn’t have anyone, they’ll call out for a mate in the form of a song. I cannot really describe properly how it sounds but think of a warm fuzzy feeling

But in other cases, such as mine, when a couple is ready to mate they’ll first do a general display of themself. Showing that they’re capable of providing for a mate and showing their strength

If that goes well, next is a flight. The two will typically go for as long as possible, seeing if they properly sync up in flight. More of a compatibility test

Lastly is a dance, this is the most romantic part of this ritual and always the part that makes me blush thinking of if I did this with V1. This part is mostly to seal the deal, but it also acts as a example of how the couple works better together as a unit

At any part of this process either party is able to drop out and deny the mate, it tends to be a bit awkward if this happens but it’s handled well and civilly.

But if all parts go well, the pair will mark each other. They leave mating marks on each other that stay there for life, this is done by uh… biting each other-

Anyway-

their scents will either mix together or one member of the couple will adopt the scent of the other.

Since I am no longer bound my heavens standards of sin and such I will be taking the liberty of adding a step to this process

V1 seems to enjoy being ‘fussed over’ as you said, it keeps getting flustered in its own way, its own adorable way

Fans running faster, metal getting warmer, its responses seem to lag a bit, it has even crashed or overheated in my arms

Oh by the stars it is simply divine to watch

It always seems much more affectionate than it usually is when I get broody with it, like it knows that my mind demands the closeness

But I will add that by technicality, V1 is not my mate (as much as I wish it was…)

Angels mate for life if they ever do, so I will admit I’ve always been hesitant to take a mate of my own. Think of human marriage as a comparison, except there is no backing out of it

Oh the nest? My my someone is curious! But yes I will speak a bit about it

The nest was my idea, I have no idea what came over me but one day I felt this OVERWHELMING feeling to pile things into a cluster and just…lay in it-

V1 apparently saw me frantically gathering things and decided to help out, so we built it together. We weren’t even in a proper relationship-

Building a nest together is quiet an intimate thing for angels, something usually reserved for mates, naturally V1 didn’t know this-

Anyway-

The nest is made up of mostly blankets and pillows, some plushies here and there as well

The newest addition is a plush of V1 that I recently was given, it’s quite soft and its likeness is of my beloved so naturally it shall join the nest

Overtime the nest has gained quite a bit of my feathers and bits of metal from V1, but I can’t bring myself to care about that

After all this talk about the nest I’m going to go lay down it in

I mean if it's just like a matter of mortality theoretically V1 could live forever so long as it gets repaired every now and then to my understanding

It’s just that we’ve been dating for only a month and I don’t want to jump into things so soon, we were enemies when we first met met after all

But also i do not know for sure if it wishes to mate with me…It’s something I haven’t dared to bring up

I hope it wants to mate, I truly haven’t felt like this for anyone in my thousands of years of living

Addressing lifespan, V1 has come to the conclusion that if provided blood it indeed CAN live for however long it wants

Rest assured that I will bring it up in time, I can’t keep it in forever
