One small step for a bird, one large dive into the big green Ah, the green waves of the sea, of for a flight. This black-billed gull sure look determined to get something to eat. The black billed gull is endemic to New Zealand, and is the most rare gull in the world. They are critical endangered. As usual, human activity is taking away their natural habitats, and predators are eating the gulls eggs and chics. Normally they live near rivers, unusual for other gulls. But this species has been separated from other birds for millions of year. I found this one near the bay head shielding Dunedin Harbour, where some black billed gulls often is outside breeding season. Just a gull? Well, every species we loose plays a role in Earths eco system. Roles not easily filled by others. https://www.doc.govt.nz/nature/native-animals/birds/birds-a-z/black-billed-gull/ #gull #sea #pacific #green #bird #roadtrip #NZ #Kiwi #New #Zealand #birds #dive #sun #birdcolony #taiaroahead #Dunedin #Otago #Nikkor #NikonD800 #D800 #Nikon #300mm #f4 #2015 #Black #billed #blackbilledgull #tarāpuka (ved Taiaroa Heads) https://www.instagram.com/p/BA-ipUhD-gN/?igshid=15eq11mt9dguq
