“But, Ah don’t want ta duel ye!” Odelia repeats in exasperation, one hand clutching her wand tightly and the other waving around to emphasize her point. She’s not entirely sure how much clearer she can make this. But no matter how many times she says it or how many steps backward she takes, the boy challenging her continues his advances. Glancing around to try and find an escape route, the girl can feel her heart beat quicken when nearby peers begin to form a ring around her and her supposed opponent. Apparently, they are expecting a duel as well... Locking her green eyes back with the boy’s, she tries once more to talk some sense into him. “C’mon Theo, dinnae ye get yer fill the last time ye made me duel ye? It was only a couple days ago! At least give me a week or so before ye throw one mah way again...”
“Aw... What’s the matter freckle-face? I’d think that you’d be thrilled to duel again. You know, since you’ve started getting tutored after school and all...” Theo sneers, casually tossing his wand from hand to hand as he smirks at the girl. Clutching it tightly in his fist, he runs a hand through his shaggy, black hair as he continues, “Unless... You think that priss Johnathan is just wasting his time trying to teach you how to do anything right.”
A collective murmur begins to run through the steadily increasing crowd, a few of the children snickering at Theo’s comments. But Odelia barely pays any attention to them, her glare directed solely at the smirking boy. “Don’t ye dare talk bad about Johnny...” She growls, her grip on her wand tightening as the tip of it begins to spark faintly. “He’s twice the... No, ten times the wizard ye could ever hope ta be!”
“Oh... Looks like someone’s feeling pretty defensive.” Theo replies in a mocking tone, his eyes narrowing as he takes another step towards Odelia. His grin grows when he sees that this time she stands her ground. It never fails, get her angry enough and he’s guaranteed a duel. Of course, when it’s against Odelia, a duel is more like him being guaranteed the chance to rough her up without getting in trouble. Beating up a fellow student up is frowned upon, but dueling one is considered honorable. Theo doesn’t really understand the rules... But he’s more than happy to take advantage of them. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you actually like that pampered show dog. But that can’t be right... I mean, you couldn’t possibly be stupid enough to think that someone as hoity-toity as him could ever want to be with a loser like you.”
Suddenly, a streak of intense lightning strikes the ground next to the boy. Causing the children in the area to flinch with surprise, including the duckling whose wand the red-hot beam had come from. “Ah... Ah dinnae mean ta do that. It was an accident... Ah... Ah dinnae accept the duel!” Odelia stammers out, quickly aiming her wand away from the boy as her boiling anger is suddenly replaced with ice-cold fear. “Theo... Theo ye know that Ah dinnae mean ta fire at ye!”
A sinister grin forms across Theo’s face as he takes a single step forward, aiming his wand directly at the trembling girl. “You might not have meant to... But you did fire.” The tip of his wand begins to glow a vibrant red, illuminating his face as he says, “Well... Looks like it’s time to duel.” With that, he fires his spell... @birdhcuse
