We were back at the bird refuge today. I loved this canal, but it looked a little dull in the middle of the day. So I touched it up a bit. Even though the canal is facing north I thought it was a perfect place for a sunset.

They’re always so elusive to photograph but I really enjoyed tracking this hawk across the sky. I wonder what it saw down in the marsh! #wildlife #nature #birds #hawk #birdrefuge #utah (at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge)
May 1, 2017. We went to a really beautiful wetlands with a cool boardwalk this morning, and it was just a peaceful place. There were a few birds, and we lucked out because we were there early enough that there were no annoying flies and bugs yet. My children, my wife, and my sister came. The kids were unbelievably well behaved, and they had a blast walking along the boardwalk and spotting things as we strolled. All the while, I was struck with how beautiful the snow-capped mountains looked, how blue the sky seemed, and how peaceful the songs of the birds were in the air. This is a side of my valley I call home I’ve never seen, and it was beautiful.
There was a quote on a plaque along the boardwalk that struck me as applicable and very true.
“There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature -- the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after the winter.” Rachel Carson, The Sense of Wonder, 1965.
That sort of rhythm that nature has, the cyclical patterns, and the rebirth-death-rebirth that is a part of existence can be terrible and exquisite at the same time. I feel very blessed this morning to have had my family and my sister with me on that boardwalk in the wetlands. (with no bugs)
What a great morning #run to the #birdrefuge #thanks #ladies
