When Akagera National Park was created in 1934, it was one of the best wildlife reserves in all of Africa but in 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, it was reduced in size by almost half of it and large portion of the land of the park was reallocated to refugees returning to Rwanda after the genocide, many refugees returned and settled in the area, and the conservation area was harmed by poaching and cultivation.⠀ The darkness time devastated Our beautiful country, Our beautiful peoples, Our wildlife, and all Our wild spaces.
