In the 1800's, there were over 5 billion Passenger Pigeons in the US.

The last in the wild was shot in 1900. We hunted them to extinction.

The last of the species, Martha, died in Cincinnati Zoo in 1914. She was 29 years old. In her life, the population of her entire species went from billions to none.

Will we ever learn?

Species: Lark Sparrow (Chondestes grammacus)

Though the Lark Sparrow is common and widespread throughout the West and Great Plains states, in the Midwest it is declining, and is considered endangered in the state of Ohio. Its greatest conservation threat is agriculture creating a lack of open grassy fields for nesting habitat.
