As hunters, the Birhors lived in complete harmony with the great jungles around them. Their use of their forests is never wasteful and always rational. Even their settlements, as a rule, normally have only about ten huts or so. They spread their colonies across the forest. This allows the different groups fair and equal access to a share of forest resources. Today, in their main home of Bihar, they are the victims of unprecedented deforestation and 'development'.
