Just Getting Started (Happy Birthday, Alex!)

[All Thomas Hunt x Alex Spencer] [Red Carpet Diaries]

Pairing: Thomas Hunt x Alex (F!MC) [Red Carpet Diaries] with Addison Sinclair, Felicity Hunt, Vincent Hunt, Bogart Hunt Synopsis: Three snippets from Alex's birthday morning. [~850 words]

Her hands slid down the front of her dress, smoothing the fabric. She glanced in the mirror, lingering a moment too long.

"Mommy, mommy, look!" Felicity announced, twirling her way into the room. The skirt of her dress floated out around her. 

Alex's attention was pulled toward her daughter, her smile widening. “Let me see that again.”

Felicity was only too eager to agree, giggling as she spun, and spun... and spun.

"Okay," Alex gently steadied her daughter, preventing her from spiraling out of control. "You look beautiful!" 

"Me next!" Vincent spun into the room more like a mini tornado than a graceful ballerina, Bogart playfully wagging his tail beside him! 

"Happy Birthday, Mommy!" The twins wrapped their arms around her in unison.

"Thank you! And, don't you both look wonderful!" 

"They're not Addi originals, but they'll suffice," Addison teased, appearing in the doorway.

"Thanks for helping get them dressed, but don't you think we're a little overdressed?"

"In this town? There's no such thing," she winked. "Now, who's ready for brunch?"

Alex followed behind the host as he led them through the restaurant toward the patio. "Don't you think this is too much?" 

"It's your birthday!" Addison defended.

"It's also brunch with two five-year-olds!" Alex laughed, "They like places where coloring on the placements is encouraged."

"We're almost six!" Vincent pouted and held up one full hand and one more finger as if doing so proved his point. 

"Yes, that's true. Two almost six-year-olds," Alex clarified, earning a proud nod from her son.

"Will you just trust me!" Addison nudged her as they continued forward. "Have I ever led you astray?" 

Alex's brow arched as she thought back to some of the trouble they'd gotten into in the past. 

Before she could argue the contrary, Addi continued. "Actually, don't answer that." 

"Daddy!" Felicity screamed, rushing forward, launching herself at her father.

Alex's step slowed. He was supposed to be at work. She told him not to take the day off... yet, here he was. Her breath caught in her chest, and her eyes shimmered in the sunlight with unshed tears. 

Thomas walked forward, meeting his wife where she stood. "Happy birthday, my love."

"What are you doing here?" Her voice was soft as she wrapped her arms around his neck. 

"I wouldn't miss this day for the world." He pressed a kiss to her forehead as she stepped back. His thumb brushed over her jaw.

"I love you." The words were but a whisper leaving her lips. 

"Eww!" Vincent groaned, his hands reaching out to cover his sister's eyes as she returned the favor. 

Alex and Thomas couldn't help but laugh at their innocence. 

Addison checked the imaginary watch on her wrist. "Oh, look what time it is."

"What time is it?" Felicity asked, her eyes filled with wonder. 

"Ice cream time!" She answered. "Who's coming with me?"

"Me, me, me!" Vincent bounced in place.

"Me too!" Felicity ran beside Addison, taking her hand.

"What are you doing?" Alex asked, her head tipping to the side. 

"It looks like we're going for ice cream." She gestured to herself and the twins. "But you two can enjoy not having ice cream here!"

"It's 10 o'clock! It's too early for ice cream!" Alex insisted.

"I believe I have used that same opposition to your insistence on consuming caffeine; however, it was 10 o'clock in the evening," Thomas offered, his brow arching as his lips curled up ever so slightly. "I think we can make an exception."

"Fine, go with Aunt Addie for ice cream!" 

The twins cheered as Addison led them away.

"Do you think I'll be the most fanciest at the ice cream place?" Alex heard her daughter question as she left. "Maybe they'll make me an ice cream princess!!!"

"Only one way to find out!"

Alex rested her chin in her hand, trying to hide her smile as Thomas leaned against her. It didn't feel real. "How long have you two been planning this?" she questioned, meeting his gaze, her joy never fading.

His fingers brushed a loose strand of hair back, tucking it behind her ear. "Long enough to make sure your day is just getting started." 

"Oh, really?" Her brow quirked up. "Now, I'm curious to know what comes next." Her fingers tangled with his.

"Patience, my love." He drew her hand to his lips, brushing a kiss across her knuckles. "The day is still young, and you have much to yet enjoy."

"Can you give me a little hint?" She begged.

"Our lovely children will be terribly disappointed if I let you in on their plans," he insisted. 

Alex leaned closer, her breath tangling with his. "Please?"

"I don't believe I can oblige that request, my dear."

"Pretty pleaseee?"

His lips met hers, softly, tenderly, like the brush of a butterfly's wings.

"You'll just have to be patient for a little while longer."

Alex leaned into him, deciding that if she had to wait, there could be worse ways to spend the morning. For now, this was more than enough.

Look at how cute these two are!!! I just love the marshmallow chibis by Neb! They are just so tiny and squishy! And these two with their little heart eyes is just precious!

This is birthday gift to myself #1. I know this week is also Alex and Olivia's birthdays so I have art for them of course, but I needed art of these two too! For those of you who've been here with me for a while know this time of year is extra rough for me... my depression is always way worse the week leading up to my birthday and the days after. There are a lot of reasons for it and I try to work through it each year but the birthday depression is always there so I try to distract myself.

Usually I host a self-care week, but I didn't have time to put it together this year, but today's self care tip is to relax your shoulders, drop your tongue off the roof of your mouth, let go of any tension and anxiety you're holding on to and just breathe. <3

No note—naturally—and no sharp-tongued remark—unnaturally. When Yunaka enters her office, she'll find a vase of buds atop her desk, frail-looking and entangled with one another at the stem. Should she keep them, however, they'll bloom late at night, unfurling into bright red petals.

—it's definitely enchanted to be poisonous. Tit for tat, and all.

The vase on her desk gives her immediate pause.

Someone's been in here. Yunaka's no fool. She keeps her doors locked and windows sealed. The door isn't trapped, mostly so she can avoid having to explain when it's trapped in the first place if she ever returns with a student in tow, but the windows are, and a quick glance confirms that neither of them have been triggered.

So, somebody who actually knows what they're doing got in.

The flowers look innocent enough. At a glance, she doesn't remember seeing these blooms listed in any of the poison books she studied. But something about the way the stems curl, as if strangling each other for survival, makes her hesitant to believe she's making a big deal out of nothing.

Better safe than sorry. Grabbing the vase by the throat so as to avoid the petals and leaves, she lifts it off her desk and dumps it directly into a bin beside her dusk, vase and all. If she was wrong...well, she'll apologize when they come to claim their present.
