Do you have any book recommendations about queer history? Sapphic history? Books about bi history? You can tag anyone else if they have recommendations as well.
Hiya anon! thanks for this ask! Unfortunately for you (and for me) I am not much of a reader, but i do have a small catalog of bisexual literary resources i've collected over the years. These are not explicitly history books, although most of them contain anecdotes of queer history along with theory and anthology. 1. Bi Any Other Name - Lani Kaʻahumanu, Indigenous bisexual activist and writer, famous for her speech from the 1993 March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay, and Bi Equal Rights and Liberation, in which she declared 'It ain't over till the bisexual speaks.'
Here's a link to an article discussing her life. 2. Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World - Robyn Ochs, bisexual activist and writer. She also has a book detailing the experiences of bisexual men. 3. Butch Queens Up in Pumps: Gender, Performance, and Ballroom Culture in Detroit - Marlon M. Bailey, Professor of African and African American Studies, Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Black Queer Theorist. This book examines Black Ballroom culture in Detroit, outlining history, experiences, culture and community. you can find a free PDF of this book online. 4. Bisexual Politics Theories, Queries, and Visions - Naomi S. Tucker, a bilingual, bicoastal, bisexual activist, writer, public speaker, and workshop leader. She has been instrumental in organizing various bisexual events since 1985. And lastly! here's some resources that arent nonfiction books, but which imo are very valuable to the bisexual community and should be taken advantage of. 1. Archived Bisexual Magazines - These offer a glimpse into what life was like for bisexuals of the late 1900s and early 2000s. These have a lot of lighthearted and personal stories and anecdotes. Here's a link to an archive of popular magazines 2. The Journal of Bisexuality - a quarterly, peer-reviewed academic journal. It is the official journal of the American Institute of Bisexuality. It covers a wide range of topics on bisexuality including new bisexual research, bisexual issues in therapy, differences from the straight, lesbian and gay communities, growth of the bisexual movement, bisexuality and the media, bisexual history, and different bisexual lifestyles. Here's the link to a Google Drive 3. The Bisexual History Tumblr Page - This is a great resource for smaller bits of history that are easily sharable. Linked here 4. The Official Bisexual History Archive - This resource brings together digital archives and archival records, including publications, zines, oral histories, and more, that document bisexual+ lives. It is intended to be regularly updated Linked Here ☆ ★ ✮ ★ ☆ ★ ✮ ★ ☆ ★ ✮ ★ ☆ ★ ✮ ★ ☆ I hope this helps you out some anon!
