Idk if you enjoy asks like this but can I ask what you think is corny about most Muslim media? I don't look at much myself but I like to keep the opinions of other Muslims in mind for if/when I write some. :]

oh i love asks like this i love the excuse to ramble while im supposed to be working

hmm just alot of it is overly sweet and a clear backlash against all the cruel and negative stereotypes that existed in the 2000s which yeah makes a lot of sense. like i had this fairytale book when i was a kid, like literally right after 9/11 (and we lived in nyc), and one of the stories was about this old european grandma who made a massive quilt for her grandson and some evil middle eastern man stole it to make it a magic carpet steal camels. my dad used to rush the ending (where the man died) and say he saw the error of his ways and started praying five times a day and fasted all ramadan the end. thats kinda corny but makes sense when you’re trying to teach your children the opposite of islamophobic and orientalist stereotypes.

so the one i was thinking about little mosque on the prarie, its cute! my main beef with it was in season 1 they had a kinda homophobic episode that haunts my subconscious but for the most part was very cute show, like wholesome, i dont think it was a laugh track sitcom but very reminsecnt of family sitcoms from the 80s and 90s, which were corny bc they are very obvious about the moral of the story

ANOTHER example of corny muslim media is this rap group my dad would always make us listen to when we were kids called native deen and dont get me wrong i still listen to their music and the beats are good and some of the lines hit hard but it can be preachy in a way trying very hard to be cool

when i was in middle school i used to read books by Randa Abdel-Fattah like does my head look fat in this which were again books for teen girls who may feel ostracized for being muslim. i really loved those books they meant a lot to me

also all the kids media is corny in the way like barney the dinosaur is corny, its for kids (i would DIE for adam from adam’s world)

tldr i guess what im saying that at the end of the day lots of muslim media comes with a clear moral of the story that its ok to be muslim and we arent all evil scary terrorists which is an important message especially for young teens and children after spikes islamophobia and growing up being made to feel othered

i still havent watch ramy or skam which look like they try to give a bit of a more complex look into the muslim identity but honestly at the end of the day, im 23 and my favorite media is watch ppl act ham fuckin stupid for minimum 80% of it and then the rest can be heart felt, i dont rly wanna be spoonfed introspection of my indentities anymore. in general there needs to be a better balance of muslim characters of media bc theyll make religion the whole part of their personality or non of it, lets balance stuff out

i also want to say while i havent watch that much christian media but the little ive had (some veggietales and nativity plays, christmas movies etc) have the same kinda corny moralistic vibes lol

Favorite character: NEKU BY FAR, i love him so much!!! whenever i think about his character arc i cry

Second favorite character: SHIKI she’s such a good girl and she deserves the world!!!

Least favorite character: i don’t think i have anyone i dislike even? i like everyone!!!

The character I’m most like: this is embarrassing but i had like. as every most teenagers had, a very angsty phase, like neku. which was solved by getting actual friends. like neku. but i didn’t discard my headphones on the floor, i’d never do that (even though it was metaphorical or something gjbh)

Favorite pairing: NEKU/SHIKI IS GOOD AND PURE AND AMAZING AND I UNASHAMEDLY LOVE THEM SO MUCH

Least favorite pairing: i don’t know honestly

Favorite moment: so this is extremely biased but. the moment i have the most fond memories of is the first-week boss, because when i played twewy, my brother controlled the partner and i controlled neku, and we were sorta kinda getting good at it, but we lost many times to doom-pudding man. but when we did defeat him? cathartic. also it was christmas 

Rating out of 10: INFINITE PLUS 20! (get it because twenty-twewy) this game means so much to me!!! one of the best games ever made!!! i love it so much!!!

ACE ATTORNEY

Favorite character: ryuunosuke naruhodou! he’s baby! even though he was presented as an ancestor, but doesn’t that add to his character?

Second favorite character: SEBASTIAN DEBESTE who i shall protect and love for all eternity. he’s my son

Least favorite character: i was about to say that a bland character is better than a bad one and then i remembered blaise debeste exists and i know the purpose of his character is for you to want to punch him but believe me they succeeded

The character I’m most like: a friend of mine calls me ryuunosuke kinnie every chance they get. so i guess him. and i guess i agree because we had very similar reactions to things to the point i was lowkey scared

Favorite pairing: ASOUGI/RYUUNOSUKE NO QUESTION they are so in love i’m just??? i’m crying

Least favorite pairing: please don’t show barok/ryuunosuke content to me i will actually cry. also the straight c*kesquill. the lesbian one is way better :’D

Favorite moment: I HAVE TWO I CAN’T DECIDE (which also goes with this thing of me just. screaming about sebastian debeste and dgs) first one is first class farewell and the second is the ending of dgs2-3 for reasons i can’t spoil but if you’ve played it you know

Rating out of 10: there’s like. so many games i can’t really rate all of them as a group but uhhh being totally serious in levels of enjoyment...

trilogy gets an 8/10, aj gets a 9/10, aai gets a 6/10, aai2 gets a 10/10 (i had to separate them because the difference was. SO BIG) dd gets a 5/10, soj gets a 6/10, dgs gets a 7/10 and dgs2 gets a 9/10 (in aai2 and dgs2′s case that enjoyment was mostly also suffering) (in a good way i guess)
