i absolutely love how you rip some media's costumes apart but still support people who do like them aesthetically
Honestly I’m trying to strike a balance. People seem to like it when I rip things apart, and if I’m staying out of the fandom tags and such, I do enjoy a good occasional snarking session over the latest Hair Down Tits Out Men In Boots Always offering. But I don’t want to ruin other people’s good time, because it’s not really them I’m annoyed by. It’s the costume designers, the directors, and the broader societal idea that historical fashions are ugly/fussy/oppressive/Generally Bad and need to be “fixed” (read: modernized).
If somebody shows up to a ball in a screen-accurate Br*dgert*n gown and seems super-excited for it, I’m going to lavish them with glowing compliments and try my best to make them feel like the Prettiest Princess. Because they’re not creating a product that the public will then pay money to watch and take their cues about history from- they’re creating something that they, personally, love. It’s not for me or anyone else. It’s for them.
I know how confident, happy, and beautiful I feel when I’m wearing one of my historical outfits. I want to help other people feel that way, too- not tear them down.
@ professional designers- I will not hesitate to make my thoughts on your choices known in the appropriate setting. even if you “weren’t trying to be accurate.” and they may well not be positive
@ private individuals who are into inaccurate but historically-inspired aesthetics- ~YOU’RE DOING GREAT SWEETIE <3~
