Standing in the Middle of the Road and Soaking in the Views of Bison Peak and Spreading Peak (Icefields Parkway) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: I'm sure I've had many a chances to take in this view during my visits to the Icefields Parkway over the years. On this Sunday morning, there was a few cars out so at times I had the road to myself. Here I had plenty of time to compose the image, capturing not just the road going off into the distance but also attempting to fill the mountainsides off in the distance as completely as possible. At times that day, the skies would open up and add to the view with beautiful blues skies and clouds.
Alberta Highway 93 and a Drive in the Icefields Parkway (Banff National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: I know I've stopped at this and other similar locations along the Icefields Parkway many a time on past trips. There's something to be said for beautiful mountain peaks all around and a drive that takes you through that those vista like points. So while there was no traffic coming in either directions, I was able to stand pretty much by myself in the center of this highway and line up and meter this image to capture the setting to my front. This is a point kind of in between the Peyto Lake overlook and the parking area for Mistaya Canyon. It's a view looking to the north-northwest. Later using the peakbagger web site, I was able to identify and tag many of the mountains, mountainside and peaks nearby and off in the distance: Spreading Peak, Cromwell Tower, South East Tower, Mount Murchison, Bison Peak, and Gest Tower.
Teig Among Bison Peak's Red Boulders
Teig is still looking and acting great as an eleven year old pup. We hiked 6 miles and 2,500 foot vertical ascent up to Bison Peak in the Lost Creek Wilderness and played in the beautiful red boulder field at the summit. We then hiked the 6 miles back down to Lost Park and he never showed signs of slowing down. He is a Trail Dog through and through!
