So began our field studies, and after having visited our two options, we were not impressed or inspired.
The transit areas around the bus stops at Park Allé and Busgaden were too busy somehow, and we simply could not imagine there being room for a playful interaction. When we moved on to Sct Clemens bridge we had the same feeling somehow - the flow and movement of the people would be interrupted.
But then we ended up walking by the newly renewed Bispetorv, which used to be a big, boring parking lot by the Cathedral. During our brainstorming session we actually talked about this domain as an interesting option, but we ruled it out due to the fact that it is still a fairly new area, with very little identity. However when we walked by we noticed all the different materials and surfaces - wood, trees, grass, cobblestone, and the amazing architecture of the Cathedral and the Theater surrounding the area.
As we took some pictures and explored the domain a little boy ran up the wooden ramp and yelled to his dad while jumping on the surface: “Hey Dad - I really thought there was water here - and I really thought is was unstable too!” - and this playful observation from this boy just passing through and appreciating the area was the final selling point. This is our domain!
