An Intro
There was a time in Nevada's life before she sold herself for money, but those times weren't exactly fresh in her memory. She had friends and a life and a job of sorts. If you could count selling newspapers for pennies a 'job'. Most of 'the time before', as she called it, was a blur but there was something she remembered. A boy, a boy who spoke of something better than the life they all lived, something more. For him it was Santa Fe, he wanted to leave the city and move to Santa Fe. No one really believed him, they all thought it was a fantasy, even she did. No one could leave the city, you were born poor and you stayed poor and you didn't leave. That was it, but he was determined he -would- go.
Nevada was taken before she ever had a chance to find out what happened, if he ever made it to Santa Fe. She hoped he had made it, because if he had made it, then so could she. She could make it out of the life she was in.
There was a time when she had almost forgotten about the cowboy who wanted to go to Santa Fe, right after she had been essentially sold by a 'friend' to pay off a debt. After that, there really was no hope for her, nothing better for her to look forward to, that was, until she watched Lito tear up the contracts (hers included).
She was originally beside herself, the only thing she knew how to do involved her on her back or knees. What was she supposed to do? It wasn't until Lito assured her she could stay if she wanted. So she did, she stayed at Bistro Lucio because it was really the only thing she had ever known. This time; however, it was her choice to stay. She wasn't tricked into it, she wasn't forced, she was there because she chose to be.
The choice was hers and, for the first time in awhile, it gave her hope. It brought back the boy who wanted to go to Santa Fe, it made her start to want her own version of Santa Fe. That, one day, she could save up enough money and finally get out of there. Put her old life behind her and start fresh, start somewhere new.
She heard a rumor once that Monterey, California was real nice.
