Disc Net for catching Bisugo (Nemipteridae). The island town of Araceli supplies a big chunk of Palawan and Manila’s cravings for bisugo (both fresh and dried). The fish is caught by artisanal fishermen via hook and line, cast net, or this disc net called “kiping.” Both hook and line and “kiping” require bait fish (sliced pelagic fish, more often). The supply of pelagic fishes thriving on the outer fringes of legal municipal waters has recently taken centerstage in fishery issues nationwide as encroachment of large scale commercial fishing increased in central and western Philippines. Infrared satellite imaging studies indicate more and more large fishing vessels in seas traditionally plied by artisanal fishermen.• • #Araceli #Kiping #Bisugo #Fisheries #FoodSecurity #FishNet #Palawan #satellitestudies #Nikon @nikonasia @fishforever_philippines @guardian @cnnphilippines @channelnewsasia (at Araceli Feeder Port) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5QBui9FlYZ/?igshid=j4apq1ch5xe0
