sometimes I wonder about reincarnation.

of my past selves

the experiences that made them beg for my current iterations circumstances.

there is a woman whose beauty turned her into a target.

skin, once entirely her own,

now stained with stranger hands

And when face to face with Death she falls to her knees and wails,

"let me be ugly

let me be wretched and ugly and finally

safe."

and for a split second to be alone doesn't feel like such a doomed fate.

that this body,

this self,

has the power of a lesson learned.

and maybe I won't lock eyes with Death and beg,

"let me be beautiful,

let me be dazzling and beautiful and finally

wanted."

and maybe Death will smile.

I am standing at the beginning of what seems like the end, and all I feel is a wave of relief. And when I sit in that truth, the privilege of it all is enough to make me sick.

But it is a truth and denying that does no one any good.

I have been praying for a break for years. If only the world could just stop long enough for me to catch up. I might have a shot in hell of creating a life I love.

And then the world stopped.

I've just been trying to honor the opportunity.

I'm gonna try not to rant. Sometimes screaming into the void is more harmful than just keeping my mouth shut.

I've been okay. Just doing the work to get right again.

A lot has changed and I'm just waiting to see the person I am at the end of it all.

I hope you are all safe, I'm always here if you need a friend.
