Every time I see someone go on about the “Black superheros with electric powers” ‘trope’ it annoys me so much
Half their examples are Black Lighting’s knockoff b/c DC didn’t wanna pay his creator to use him. And homages to those knockoffs/Black Lightning himself.
And Black Lightning’s kids who ya know inherited their powers from him. And fucking Thunder doesn’t even have fucking electric powers!
Storm who’s power is controlling the weather which includes strong winds and rain and hail just as much as lightning
(Static has electric and magnetism powers b/c he’s his universe’s spider-man type character with high mobility and the ability to immobilize bad guys)
And then the characters based on fucking real-life mythological/religious/folkloric figures! Like sorry guys, religion is too tropey to use for basing a character on.
It's so so fucking annoying.
You don’t see people constantly bring up the absurd number of superstrong, invulnerable, flying White people do ya?
Ahh San Francisco...
So I was across the street from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals today parking my car so that I could go to the law library.
Yes, I use the books there. I’m unwilling to pay for Lexis or Westlaw.
So between where I walked out of the parking structure and the entrance to the law library is about a block. Two doors into my walk, I was almost stuck by a used needle. I started to wonder if my choice of shoes was bad, because I wasn’t sure if the sole of my shoe would survive a stick.
(Thanks, I’m sure, are due to some Opoid addict who shoots up on the street. )
I then got to hop between piles of human feces. Good times.
(Thanks to the City for that one. They can’t be bothered to clean the streets and they keep making homelessness in SF more attractive with the benefits they offer.)
I turned the corner and realized that the guy walking in front of me was doing drugs off a piece of tin foil with a glass pipe and a lighter. Since I’m not a connoisseurs of drugs, I’m guessing its more opioids because he didn’t have that “I’m about to lose my teeth and haven’t slept in a week” look that I associate with the meth guys. I’m guessing this is what passes for street entertainment for the tourists these days.
After that, I got to run the gauntlet to the door of the law library. I’m pretty sure that I saw at least two drug deals go down.
A few hours later, I got to do the whole thing in reverse, although without the guy smoking the drugs.
I used to live next to the open air drug market in a city on the East Coast where I saw less drug use and sales in the same amount of time. So welcome to SF, the city that apparently wants to commit suicide by drugs. Ugh.
unpopular opinion: episode 6 was the worst episode of season 1
Using platinum as a way to restrain Earthbenders/ ‘why can’t they just metalbend the enemy’s shit’ was a colossally bad idea
Not the least b/c platinum shares a lot of properties with gold. There’s a reason no one actually makes any weapons or armor out of fucking gold.
Am in a mood of being annoyed by Dark/Black vs Light/White symbolism
also the use of ‘fair’ as a synonym of beautiful
I’ve got all of the sources I’m going to use in my proposal. Now I just need to write out the actual proposal and then edit and then hand it in next Friday (not this upcoming one). Yay for almost being on top of things.
Part time work or college student life when you get sick: really needs to take a day off to get better. Can't afford or not able to do due to staffing or needing to hear the lecture. Gets sicker. Performs worse at job or school and falls behind anyways. Finally gets better but can't catch up in school or pissed off people at work. Repeat.
