Sleep carries her with bare feet through streets that are empty and still with the curfew. Leaves crumble under toes gone numb and cold, but she sees none of it. Hears none of it. 

The world is a soft edged tunnel, curled at the edges. 

She doesn’t know how long she’s been standing in front of his cage. (Cell wasn’t the right word. Call a spade a spade.)

But she’s here now, blinking away sleep with glassy eyes.
