Umbrellas are all over the place so much that people might not take it home and instead leave it for someone else who needs it... public property by now because you seen the umbrella curses on twitter
I’ve never known anybody to DELIBERATELY leave an umbrella behind for somebody else who needs it, but it does seem to be generally accepted that if you forget your umbrella somewhere public and it starts to rain, it’s gone. Somebody took it. Haste ye to 7/11 to get a new one because that one ain’t coming back.

Kaito, in the quiet of Saguru’s room while the detective is away, lifts the smooth, sleek skin, folding it over itself and eyeing it; he’s confused, but he still has the sense it’s increasingly valuable. Technically, he shouldn’t take it...
The next day, Hakuba approaches him with a darkened gaze at the end of classes, and simply demands, “Where is it?”

It wasn’t that Saguru actually thought Hattori to be a bad detective, or even a bad person. It wasn’t so much about quality of character or ability as it was quality of voice. When one relies so heavily on hearing, a grating voice or strong accent can make or break the perception.
HakuShin, AU Shinichi is a murderer
He’s bending over the desk in the office they’re investigating, rifling through files that Shinichi had advised him to look at. This case had been keeping them both on edge for days, they’re both exhausted; it’s nice to be working this with the other detective rather than on his own, though.
He’s in the middle of thinking this when--”Ah, Hakuba-kun,” Shinichi begins, and before he turns to face him a sharp pain stabs at the small of his back.
