after so many years of always saying the wrong thing, kalu finds herself missing the laughs that usually followed it — even if they were often of the mocking variety, it was easier to pretend that something stupid she said was a joke she just happened to land, and not something.. just kind of mean to say to someone you once thought you were going to spend the rest of your life with. tongue rolling over her teeth, she thinks of ways to make it better — tries to — and is ultimately caught off guard by the offer, her eyes widening and head shaking. "—what? no, don't..." the protest comes with vigor, and her insistence fizzles upon making eye contact; shoulders, shrunk, eyes flickering all about trinity's face, trying to find anything in her expression that tells her there's still something here. she can't tell. she swallows. "i think you leaving... would ruin it for me, definitively," she admits, sheepish, tucking her ankle under her knee and squeezing tight into the skin there. "come on. we can make it work, right? just... one more trip?"

this had to be some sort of joke. if there were any people she felt like she could trust with setting her up for a blind date, it should be her friends, so why was her ex sitting at the table they'd sent her to ? wondering if she should stand them up or not, she lingered, watching them for a while. standing someone up had never been her style, besides they hadn't broken up for any real bad reasons. so, deciding she didn't dislike them enough to leave them hanging, she walked to the two - person table, wearing a smile that was more forced than anything. " hey. " she was curious how this was going to go. " ... before you say anything, i'm as surprised as you are. "
