2. most recent horror movie you watched and hated

i was so hoping someone would send this one hehe.

some friends and i watched weapons (2025) recently and i hated it. all of the characters were too flat for me to be invested in them, it ruined the film at the start by telling you exactly what happened in 5 minutes of exposition instead of letting it play out, and despite the director saying that none of his films are "political," there's an awful lot of references and metaphors for school shootings and none of them really comment on the topic at all. just kind of a "wow isnt that fucked up? anyway." very annoying to me as someone who likes to analyze films. i wrote up a whole review for my website, but i havent done the icon so i dont want to post it yet.

3. most recent horror movie you watched and loved

hellraiser (1987)!! i tried to watch it in like 2018-ish and i was like "wow this sucks" but i realized it was one of the sequels. but now that i've actually seen the original one, this shit is GAS.

6. a horror movie you liked but wouldnt recommend to most people (give a reason if youd like to)

probably beau is afraid (2023). incredibly good movie, VERY good at the kind of horror it was going for, but its long and really stressful and complex. there's a type of comedy movie that i cant stand watching, where a stupid, but kind person tries their best, but they just fail at everything and make all kinds of stupid mistakes. beau is afraid is that, but the horror version so i was like. freaking the fuck out lol. im someone who loves to rewatch movies and i'll almost certainly never watch it again.

7. a horror movie you want to recommend to people

gonna cheat on this one and recommend two >:3c

first one is dave made a maze (2017). really fun film about creative burnout and depression. all practical effects. pussy is the answer to the problem. gordon freeman is there.

second one is spree (2020). its a found footage film about a guy who wants to be internet famous. it uses the found footage aspect in a really fun way that i liked a whole lot. also jared, 19, never learned how to fucking read is there.

lichrally lichrally.... like the thing (one of the things) for me is how in some of these posts ppl would acknowledge some genuinely fun and interesting stuff abt humans but it was soured for me by the implication that these things were special because they were somehow unique to humans.

like what do you guys MEAN you dont think aliens pack bond? what do you MEAN you dont think aliens have their own art and music and sports and games? none of them? nobody? on the whole planet? in the whole universe?? even animals will like wrestle and play-fight for fun you straight up cant say doing dumb reckless shit for entertainment is a uniquely human experience you literally cant. and even if it is, why do you imagine this theoretical alien visitor as being so inherently closed-minded that their reaction is fearful awe instead of marveling at the diversity of the sapient experience? first contact is a two way street!

the joy of the possibility of sharing these things with alien life should be like. the joy of any cultural exchange. the idea that we would meet an alien species and the whole interaction would just be like. theyre amazed and/or horrified by all our weird shit and have nothing significant to contribute themselves its... first of all its dumb and uninteresting from a story perspective second of all and i know i know its not that deep but it rly rly feels like some colonialism-but-its-fine-because-its-the-FUTURE storytelling shit.

Will z get to learn about Halloween?

Yes!

(not me diving down a research rabbit hole of what Halloween was like the last time Z was on Earth...)

So, it looks like the mischief and holiday party aspects of Halloween would be familiar to Z, but they will get to see that people are a lot less focused on anarchical tricks these days. Z would also be surprised by the number of people dressed in costume and very excited by some of the "newer" traditions such as haunted houses, horror movies, and jack o' lantern carving.

(but I'll do more research to be sure before we reach that part of the story...)

And we will reach that part of the story. Halloween plays a really big role in Zorlok; a lot of shit leads up to events that take place on that day and it's when many storylines/conflicts come to a head and collide. Halloween is actually so important that a whole ass chapter is named for it 😊 (here)

I’m gonna say there’s three possibilities:

Lucifer left it there as a warning to keep MC in line, it didn’t work.

It’s a fake skull that just happens to go in line with the decor of the room. Humans have human skull decorations, right?

It’s a real skull but it was already in the room and they just left it there. No thought.

Oh man I just finished chapter one and I love it so far!! The world building is amazing, the plot immediately hooked me in, and not to mention the writing!! I can’t wait to see more!! Any extra world lore you can give us or would it be spoilers?
